Where should I apply?

Post by BinM » Wed Mar 26, 2014 6:16 pm

Hey guys I'm a first time poster. I just got my LSAT back from February and I am fairly pleased. So now I'm curious where I should start looking this fall.

GPA:3.97 (University of Alabama)
LSAT:172

I have 3 W's on my transcript and my only B from my second to last semester in undergrad. I had to take the drops for a family health issue. I know that is may hurt me and I may have to write an addendum.

Thanks for any suggestions

Blanket the t-14 - and enjoy Harvard or half tuition at Chicago or Columbia

No need for an addendum. You will have guaranteed $$ in the T14 and you're basically locked for Harvard.

Anywhere you want.

I would probably go for an addendum (I did with a similar situation) simply to control the reaction to the W's. Just a few paragraphs.

Roll Tide.

Just to temper the enthusiasm, there are many people with similar or better numbers who have been rejected/waitlisted by Harvard this cycle.

I'd blanket the top 14.

This. You're below median at harvard so I wouldn't count on it unless you have unique softs. Applying early should help as well so get everything ready early

Why do people come on here with these numbers and ask these questions? Between LSN and any casual search and/or perusal of the "what law school should I choose" forum the answer to this question should be blindingly obvious to anyone who can score a fricking 172.

+1

If you're bright enough to get a 4.0 and a 172, clearly you're bright enough to know that these are good numbers. Do you need validation this badly?

Ok, "locked" was too strong. I don't know why, but I thought H's median was 171 for LSAT. I would still say OP is much better than a coin flip, with GPA @ 75% and 25%<LSAT<50%. If you look at LSN, the "sweet spot" started @ about 3.9 + 172. If you draw a diagonal to the 3.55/178 (looks almost like a line of best fit through the wait listed), basically everyone on the right side of the line was in. OP falls in this range. I know the sample size was limited, but I'd still say op is 75% or better for H.

You should blanket the T14 and play their offers against one another. You're likely in at H and you're well within YS ranges. You can probably net a full tuition scholly outside the T6 and depending on your goals that may be your best option.

Pay the application fees only for HYSCCN if they don't provide. Apply to other [t14] schools only if free to apply and you want to seriously go (i.e., you like something unique about the program or would probably go given a free ride) because you might just get YP'd. Don't worry about W's. Write a bangin' PS and get the two professors' who think you are a bonafide genius to say so (shouldn't be too hard with that 3.9) and you will be balling this time next year. Do not ED anywhere. And definitely do not retake.
