Average Joe, Average scores
I've applied for Fall 2014. I have a 3.0 gpa, and a 151 LSAT. I have some not so great stuff in the past couple years including academic probation my sophomore year. But I'm pretty sure I have strong LORs.
What do you guys think my chances are for the places i've applied?
Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas A&M (yeah, I love TX), UMaine, UNM and ULouisville.
My scores aren't amazing, but not bad either. I have two softs also, and I'm Caucasian...if that makes a difference either way.

Everyone here is going to tell you to retake. Where do you have ties? Where do you want to practice?

While we're talking about averages, you should check LST and see the average outcome for an average joe at those schools is unemployment or a low paying job.

for the sake of your future, do not apply to law school with those stats. there are two credited options for you: (a) don't go to law school, and (b) study your ass off until you are PTing in an acceptable range, then retake.

Are you a NM resident? If not, you will not be getting in with those numbers. Sorry.
Also, and I didn't really look at your full list, but I know Baylor ain't gonna take you with those numbers.
Unless NM in state resident, retake. Even then, consider retake.

Monsterman, I have ties to UMaine, my cousin's wife went there, but beyond that no. My goal is to do contract law
I realize that y'all are saying to retake but I've already applied to all these school plus some I know I won't get into like Gonzaga and Syracuse. Some of my scores are in the 25th percentile for my original listed schools, and crazier things have happened right? I think Texas A&M had scores in my range. I hope my LOR's are a good reflection of my desire to go to go to law school, my personal statement was pretty great too.

There are a few problems with this statement.Derekwash88 wrote:Monsterman, I have ties to UMaine, my cousin's wife went there, but beyond that no. My goal is to do contract law

First, 'average' people don't get in if they're 25th percentile. Average people have to be at least, well, average. Meet both medians for each school, and you have a shot. People below each median usually have some sort of impressive background, or are an URM. Crazier things have happened - but don't be shocked when nothing crazy happens.
Also, you seem to be putting a ton of stock in your LORs. If one or both are from people who know how skilled you are at writing in a legal environment (maybe you worked as a paralegal?), that could be helpful. And by helpful I mean that they could act as a tiebreaker between you and someone else with identical numbers. LORs will not make up for LSAT scores, or GPA. Schools can't report LORs to USNews.
You have a desire to go to law school. That's great. Seriously. I'm glad you've found something in your life that you want to do. But if you truly have this burning desire, why aren't you working towards it? Take another year, study like you tell yourself you're going to when you're in law school, and kill the LSAT. Then you'll have so many more options, and you can really get the job you want.

OP: did you look at http://www.lstscorereports.com? if you are happy with the employment prospects of those schools, then i suppose there's not much we can do to convince you otherwise, but please, i implore you to look at that website and check out how grads from your top schools fare.

If your LSAT is at or above median, you will probably get in. If not, you probably won't get in or will be waitlisted.

Those employment rates were interesting. My applications are already in, and I've applied to over 12 schools, so chances are I will get in (or wait-listed) to at least one. If not, back to the books for Fall LSAT! Thanks you guys!

Even if you get in, wouldn't you rather get in with a fat scholarship? Getting in to law school isn't hard. It's not some huge achievement that you need to jump on immediately.Derekwash88 wrote:Those employment rates were interesting. you can also reapply next cycle even after getting in. there's no rule against that; people do it all the time. just ask the TLS user "Clearly"; he did so and is quite happy about it.Derekwash88 wrote:Those employment rates were interesting. It's your life, but you'll be making a huge mistake if you go to school with your current numbers. You either won't get in anywhere worth going, or, if you do sneak in under the wire, you'll be paying sticker, which would be retarded.
Seriously, don't be so shortsighted and immature. Retake.

Re: Average Joe, Average scores
If somebody came up to you and said:
"I'll pay you $150,000 to wait a year to go to law school"
Would you accept?
That's basically what retaking means. Make the LSAT your full-time job and you will end up going to a strong school for free.
