3.33/172 What are my chances?

Post by premedpr » Wed Mar 19, 2014 6:40 pm

So far I have been admitted to two state schools and W&M with scholarships.

With a 3.33 GPA and a 172 LSAT, where do I have a shot?
My undergrad degree is in Biology, so that helps explain the GPA.

I also applied to:

Vanderbilt
Emory
UNC Chapel Hill

You should be a shoo-in for most of the lower T14, I would think. I got in off reserve at Cornell with a 3.32/167, and was waitlisted at GULC as well. With your much better LSAT, I would expect much better chances than I had. As a result, I would be extremely surprised if you didn't get into at least two of the schools you applied to. All three is really the most likely result.

Side note: I should say that my softs were relatively good, and that my low GPA was easily explained, but I actually doubt that either of those things influenced the initial accept/reject/waitlist decisions. Those seem purely numbers-based.

Check out my cycle on LSN. If I were you, I would blanket the t-14 next fall.

I was in your exact boat a few years ago (when admissions standards were a touch higher). I highly recommend taking nothing less than T10. That may require riding a few waitlists and sending LOCIs, but it's worth it. If you have any additional questions feel free to PM me. And if you're gonna wait til next year's cycle, try to do something productive with your life that you can throw on your resume and in a personal statement.

Check out mine too. We're basically twins (my GPA is slightly higher and not in science). You can get $/$$ from the lower T-14 if you apply next fall.

Reapply next fall and go to a T14 with $$$.

Don't got to any of the schools you applied to with these stats. Unless Vandy gives you a fully, that could be a conversation. Otherwise, withdraw your apps. Future you will thank you.

Update- made it in with

99k Emory
60k Vandy

Probably going to take Vandy- It's the best that I applied to this cycle! I can't imagine waiting another year now that I'm in...I would have so much anxiety.

Anxiety? You will go to a T14 if you apply next cycle. A 30% discount at Vandy is a waste of your numbers. Compare Vandy's employment stats to the lower T14.

Also, what do you plan to do with this law degree and where?

Dude, it would be seriously ill advised for you to settle for Vandy with those stats, even with that level of discount. People with your numbers are comfortably gaining admission to CCN this cycle. Vanderbilt is a good regional school, but there simply exist far better opportunities for people with your numbers.

Sit out a cycle, polish your personal essays, make sure your LOR are on point, and enjoy CCN or lower T14 with $.

Anxiety is when you're about to graduate from law school without an adequate job to pay off your debts because you didn't go to the best school you could have gone to.

You need to wait and reapply. I almost went to Gtown at sticker because I didn't have a job. Now I'm going to CCN with $. Settling for Vandy would be a huge mistake.
