Honeslty do I have a shot

Post by FutureJD88 » Sun Mar 09, 2014 12:16 pm

I went to school half time. So it took my 8 years. I have a brother who is autistic and I had to help take care of him. My grandmother was also ill. I volunteered for 3 years with a women's anti abuse organization. I am starting an internship and more volunteer work. My gpa is 2.6 and LSAT 176. I am AA. Do I have a chance at a t 20 school ? Thanks for your input.

Well done on that lsat score. You also seem to have an interesting story to tell. Make sure you write a DS and spend a good amount of time putting your apps together. Best of luck with everything

Without a doubt. And you'll probably get some good money, too.

I'd say apply to all T14 schools from CC to Georgetown. I'd be interested to see what you get at splitter-friendly schools like NYU and Northwestern.

Apply everywhere. You, might be, in top 5 AA LSAT. For YLS there is no difference between 2.6 and 3.3 GPA. If they decided to admit someone with low GPA, that would be you. A good chance to end up in one of them.

This is absolutely not true. GPA floors exist. The lowest GPA for Yale's c/o 2016 is 3.13, and that guy is a TLSer who had an amazing story.

I think T20 is a pretty safe bet. In the T14, you would have at least a chance at Northwestern and Georgetown.

That said, schools definitely have a GPA floor. U Chicago published their range last year and I think the lowest GPA in their class was a 3.03. That isn't to say there is NO CHANCE you could ever be accepted at a T6 school, but you have to realize how unlikely it would be.

I don't believe so, but I'm not sure how that's relevant because that was the lowest GPA in the class including all the URMs.

Apply 1-14. I have absolutely no idea where you will get in, but you will get multiple offers.

on point

ETA: OP. HYS rarely dip that low on GPA (like once a decade maybe) but might for a 176AA. They are definitely a huge longshot. You should have a reasonable chance at admission at the rest of the t14. Probably good scholarship at lower t14.
