174 LSAT, 2.7 GPA, Any shot at UPENN or Vanderbilt?
Stats:
LSAT: 174 (Considering retaking to try to get higher in Feb.)
LSAC GPA: 2.7
Softs:
Eagle Scout
Year and half slaving away for the the devil.. I mean working for a fortune 500 bank as an analyst.
Board member and treasurer of a Non-profit that donates 40K annually to local non-profits.
Helped build a homeless shelter for homeless foster children that age out of the system.
Any shot at UPENN or Vanderbilt? Not sure about their GPA floors, but I'm guessing 2.7 is kind of a stretch.
I believe the consenus is Georgetown or UVA at this point. Maybe wait a year and apply to Northwestern?
Any additional advice would be great.

Penn doesn't seem to be takign sub 3.0s. UVA is, so maybe apply from UVA on down?

I don't know about Penn or Vandy, but I would try applying to NW this year. Last cycle they either accepted or wait-listed everyone 2.5+ and 171+. And a lot of the waitlists were admitted later. And you have 1.5 years of good w/e, which they really care about. Of any T14, they seem like your best bet. Good luck!

I agree that NU is probably your best bet given their emphasis on WE but you have a shot at getting a couple from the lower T14 so I would definitely apply to UVA and Georgetown at a minimum. Good luck!

I wouldn't bother with a retake. I don't really see any upside (no downside either of course I guess)
Northwestern seems to be your best bet, maybe try to ED to Penn if you really, really want to go there. I'm assuming your numbers would face sticker at the T14 regardless.
Does anyone know if NU was giving anyone with sub-3.0s any scholarship money?

myLSN says 44%/50,000 for a 2.0 - 2.9 & 170 - 180. Not a ton of $$ and not the best odds, but not bad for a t14 and sub 3.0...BigZuck wrote:I wouldn't bother with a retake. I don't really see any upside (no downside either of course I guess)

Yeah, also I'm too lazy to look this up but even if he does get money at NU it might not be that much less expensive than Penn given COL and each school's relative tuition.midnight_circus wrote:kershka wrote:FTFYmidnight_circus wrote:I don't know about Penn or Vandy, but I would try applying to NU this year. I'd say yes if you're comfortable paying sticker, no if you're comfortable potentially riding waitlists.
But I'm also uncomfortable with the idea of you pinning your future on my 0L, only lightly informed advice.

Would any of them be cheaper than what you would expect to get at Northwestern? That's the kind of research you need to do.withoutapaddle wrote:Should I ed Virginia upenn or georgetown

Looking at the rankings UPenn and Virginia have nearly identical stats.
Georgetown, NU look like their the easiest T-14's to get into based off numbers.
It's my hope that with 11% less of LSAT tests being administered this year so far, and less people applying, there's much fewer 170 scorers.

Sorry about the double post.
I wouldn't mind paying sticker at the T-10. Outside of that, maybe NU or Cornell: With no shot in hell at Duke. I wouldn't want to pay sticker at Georgetown.

This is the only data point on <3.0 / 173+ ED'ing to UVA, but he got in: http://lawschoolnumbers.com/freshmaker
A few people got in last cycle RD with similar stats.
