173/3.82/Re-applying
Hi all,
Hoping for some feedback on my app and where to focus my efforts. Applied last year with the following stats:
Stats: 170/3.82; Engineering/Biology Double Major (Boston U)
Major Softs: Work in IP law (consulting); Founded a startup (failed)
Misc: International (bilingual, non-US citizen)
LoR: 2 from employer (I have 2 managers), 2 from Profs (One from ENG, one from Bio)
PS: My startup
WL at H then rejected. Wondering if I can get in with these updated stats:
Stats: 173/3.82
New Softs: Guest Lecturer (Boston University - Topic: IP in Engineering); Second year in consulting with recruitment experience; Volunteer tour guide (Non-profit international Org)
Think I can get in HYS with this? I also need advice on my LoRs and PS.
LoRs: Keeping the same ones from the profs (nothing new); Updated ones from ONE manager at work; Fourth from my volunteer work manager (Is this a good idea?)
PS: No idea what to write on. I don't want to use the same one, or even use the same topic. Suggestions?
Thanks all.

Re: 173/3.82/Re-applying
Law school predictor raises your chances at H from 30% with the 170 to 49% with the 173. I know you probably don’t want to hear this, but I’d retake if I were in your shoes. Even a 1 point increase would give you a better than 50-50 chance at H if you really want to go there.
If not, write a stellar PS and hope/pray for the best (and kill your interview)

Thanks for the quick reply!
I don't mind retaking, but I'll probably do so next year. Having a stable job really makes waiting another year for law school no big deal. But if I take more than one test a year I feel my performance will start getting affected, haha. I'll work on maximizing the rest of my application for this year!

I think you'll get H this year.
Send those 3. Probably not the volunteer one.dnptan wrote:LoRs: Keeping the same ones from the profs (nothing new); Updated ones from ONE manager at work; Fourth from my volunteer work manager (Is this a good idea?)

LSP is worthless. Use LSN and myLSN.info. I wish the mods would sticky a notice to this effect at the top of every forum so we wouldn't have to explain this anew every fall. But, alas, one of the mods founded that site.OVOXO wrote:Law school predictor raises your chances at H from 30% with the 170 to 49% with the 173.
OP, I also think you're likely to get H, given that you were WL'd last year despite -- being substantially below both medians. H is going to have to work even harder to maintain its 173 median this year.
I'd also leave out the volunteer manager LOR. One employment LOR is enough.

Sorry to highjack, but I have similar goal schools and numbers (173/4.15).
Do these make me close to a lock at H?

Yes, unless you majored in criminal justice, kinesiology, or something held in similarly low regard.drawstring wrote:Sorry to highjack, but I have similar goal schools and numbers (173/4.15).

I think you'll have a great second cycle. You should get H! As you probably already know, GPA considerations might be a little more difficult at Yale and maybe Stanford, but good luck!

Thanks for the advice all.
Any ideas on how I can make my app stronger? Think just applying to HYS is safe enough, or should I add in CCN to the mix?
