164/3.71. Cornell?

Post by DrSlackJaw » Mon Oct 28, 2013 7:43 pm

Graduate of a T-20 USNWR undergrad. What are my chances in the T-15, especially Cornell? I'm also curious what effect (if any) having a Masters from Oxford (two of my letters are from professors there) would have on my chances; might it take the edge off that 164 a bit?

Based on the info on MYLSN I would say you're most likely looking at a waitlist from Cornell. However, depending on how debt averse you are, you might want to consider using their new ED option. Might give you that slight boost that you need.

You're sitting nearly exactly where I was my senior year of high school. I retook for 172 and got in nearly everywhere. I'd highly recommend it.

Thank you very much for the replies! I am definitely considering retaking. I take it as well that the grad degree does not have too much bearing on the admission committee's decision?

The grad degree will be seen as a positive soft, especially being from Oxford.

However, I doubt it will help you dramatically outperform your numbers. A retake is the credited strategy here. I'm sure you're capable of 170+ with a little elbow grease. :)
