173 / 3.4 ED Columbia?

Post by JJD7769 » Mon Oct 21, 2013 12:51 am

I know that Columbia's LSAT 75th dropped to 173 this cycle, does anyone think that that could put me over the edge to get into Columbia with an ED? Or would I be better suited EDing to NYU?

Softs are going to be average to below average and letters of recommendation will probably be average.

What would you do in my situation?

Are you ready to go $280,000+ in debt? if so, ED away.

CLS doesn't give a huge boost for ED. I personally would hit all the T14 except Stanford and Yale in RD and see where the $ flows in. Up to you

I don't think you should ED anywhere, except maybe Northwestern.

A 173 will be very, very desirable to every school this cycle. This ain't 2009.

Write a strong personal statement and spin your softs into a good story.

I personally don't think any school is worth sticker.
If I were you, I'd apply RD and weigh my options.

Thanks for the advice guys.

JBagelboy you said that I should apply everywhere but Y and S does that mean you think I have an outside shot at H?

Not really. But the outside chance that they get super desperate to hold that median is probably worth the $100. YOLO.

For more evidence not to ED CLS, check this out:

You'll get in RD and might get monies from other T14 to negotiate with/not pay sticker.

You could also probably leave out Berkeley. Not getting in there.

Wow definitely didn't realize applicants with my numbers were getting into Columbia that easily.

Rigorous or prestigious undergrad, additional degrees or licenses, fellowships (fulbright), professional or unique WE all can provide a small boost for low GPA candidates at CCN.

How about a 172? (not the same?)
172 is above median everywhere other than HY. S probably doesn't care about their numbers that much but a 172 still looks good at CCN and it definitely keeps you in contention for the top 3.
