165 3.83 AA Male
Hi guys,
long-term lurker, first-time poster.
my lsac gpa is 3.83 and my highest LSAT was a 165 (other two scores were lower, but not my much). please note that this was my third attempt, so I can't retake any time soon.
Uninteresting softs.
Also, I went to lawschoolnumbers and mylsn already, but was only able to find 2-3 relevant people to compare my numbers/urm status to, so you guys are my last hope haha.
I'm interested in any school in the top-14, also applying to UW, BU and a couple regionals.
Chance me?

You'll nab 1 or 2 of HYS and get big $$$ at the rest of the T14. Congrats.
Apply early and have a solid overall application.

Probably in at both both Harvard and Stanford, though not a lock. Potentially $$ from CLS and UChi.

God, I hate you. I mean, apply to all Top 25 schools and watch the offers and money roll-in.

Id take a worse law school and lower scholarship over a lifetime of being treated like crap or worse in most of this country for no discernable reason besides being black

As usual in these types of discussions, this clip applies.t-14orbust wrote:Is it bad that I wish I were an URM.
I'm not going to get into a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages about AA, because I'm pretty sure there's a moratorium on that discussion on TLS, but really take some time to think about your upbringing and how much of it would have been possible on the average URM family's salary.
You're not going to be a rapper or a profesional athlete, so I can only think of two areas of life where being a URM would be advantageous, all else equal--getting into law school and getting hired. I can think of probably several dozen areas where it is a distinct advantage to be white. You can be opposed to AA (I am) and nonetheless recognize white people have advantages in certain aspects of life. So it's not "bad" so much as perhaps shortsighted--after you have your first job (especially in a field like law), you'll be thanking your lucky stars you're white.

Except I'm not white, I'm a non-URM minority (Fairly low household income, evicted from home in 2008, though probably slightly more privileged than the average URM in regards to how much my parents stressed education). I would not mind the Mexican URM boost.Monochromatic Oeuvre wrote:As usual in these types of discussions, this clip applies.t-14orbust wrote:Is it bad that I wish I were an URM.

Point still applies. East Asians, South Asians, and light-skinned Hispanics (of mostly European origin) generally have more advantages. If you're saying you'd rather be Mexican than some equally disadvantaged group, like Guatemalan, then I guess it makes sense.t-14orbust wrote:Except I'm not white, I'm a non-URM minority (though probably slightly more privileged than the average minority). Yeah, I'm just an ungrateful asshole. It would just be nice to know that my stats would make me a lock at HYS.

Not really a big deal. I'm sure every non-URM who isn't going to HYS has had that "if only I were such-and-such" moment while getting their results back. I had that moment a few months back, but something in your personal life will probably put it in perspective. For me, it was when I walked outside and realized that there are not that many of those "such-and-such" families in my neighborhood.

This isn't the place to complain about AA; I believe there's a thread reserved for that.t-14orbust wrote:Yeah, I'm just an ungrateful asshole. It would just be nice to know that my stats would make me a lock at HYS.

No need to apply outside of the T-14 law schools since you should receive substantial scholarship offers within that group.
