Re: 4.04/180
This is not about, "what are my chances."
His chances I imagine are fucking stellar. He just has no idea what to even look for in a school, or what he wants to do at all.
I was wondering if there was a line of question I could go through with him to help him figure things out. Also, since yale doesnt give a fuck how high your GPA or LSAT is, how he might be able to make his application look its best.

These peeps are going to give you good advice, but you have to be patient. Your buddy's numbers are ridiculous. If I was in his shoes, I would only apply to Yale, Harvard, Stanford and Columbia (and maybe Chicago/NYU). I don't think I have ever seen a 4.0/180 combo before. Not on TLS. Not on LSN. Not anywhere.

He should look for the best combination of employment statistics + scholarship money. If he wants NYC Biglaw and is debt-averse, hope for a Hamilton at Columbia. If he wants academia or something, go to HYS. If he doesn't know what he wants to do, he should do his own research on different careers.UnderrateOverachieve wrote:His chances I imagine are fucking stellar. I'm not sure how we're supposed to help beef up his app. We know nothing about this guy other than his numbers. There are an infinite number of softs he could accumulate. But we don't know what his interests are, what he majored in, when he's applying, etc.UnderrateOverachieve wrote:I was wondering if there was a line of question I could go through with him to help him figure things out. Ask him why he wants to go to law school, where he sees himself in 10 years, what his interests are, and brainstorm things he could do with his current skill set.

It sucks that Mr. ColeWorld withdrew all of his apps before they bombarded him with $$$.Lavitz wrote:He should look for the best combination of employment statistics + scholarship money. He said the Ruby at Chicago had always been his main goal. And I'm not sure why he didn't list it on LSN, but I know Michigan offered him 120K.bizzybone1313 wrote:It sucks that Mr. ColeWorld withdrew all of his apps before they bombarded him with $$$.

Re: 4.04/180
This thread is retarded.
What are your buddy's chances? Literally as high as they could possibly be in the absence of your buddy's skin color changing between now and September.
What would I do if I were him? Apply to HYSCC, laugh at the plebs who were "worried about their chances", make a "Yale or Hamilton?" choosing thread that was nothing but a veiled opportunity to wave my giant dick around the Internet, and then I'd purposefully fail at something in life, just to see how it feels.

ITT jealous fucks barrage someone for trying to help out A FRIEND
OP: Make sure everything besides numbers are excellent. Have him spend a lot of time preparing professors to give LORs (include past tests, papers, transcripts with grades in their classes, etc.) and write an amazing admissions essay (checked over multiple times, interesting topic, well written, not too verbose, zero errors).

How old is this kid?
Why does he want law?
Without knowing anything about him but what you've said and his numbers, I'd suggest taking a year off to figure out what he wants to do with his life, then go ... well, to whatever law school he wants because good grief.

Yeah holy shit, calm down people. This guy is just looking for a little advice on the finer points of his friends' application, probably because of the rampant rumors that say "Oh yeah all of HYS reject 4.0/180s all the time it's such a black box".RodneyRuxin wrote:ITT jealous fucks barrage someone for trying to help out A FRIEND

Also, we know he wants biglaw, so something like the Hamilton would be a great outcome for him. He needs to learn about his options more, and people should stop being total asses about it, IMO.

Re: 4.04/180
Fine, I don't mean to bite anyone's head off. But the tips for maximizing the strength of your application are the same for this kid as for anyone else, and I assume it's all been stickied somewhere in another forum.
It's already been covered that it was misplaced in the "What Are My Chances" board. I was just emphasizing that Harvard is actually the worst-case scenario here. OP's friend could write about the time he carjacked someone and he'd still be fine.
