4.0/170 - chances at all t-14 (weak softs) Forum

My softs are weak. I have a 4.0/170. I went to a top 50 school in the global rankings if that means anything.

I'm up here in Canada and will probably go to school here but I'm wondering what my chances are at the t-14 schools. I know HYS are not an option but what about the others?

No need to humble brag I'm just literally quite ignorant of the admissions to the US schools. I thought Yale and Harvard were much more difficult to get into than simply having numbers.

Any specific reason for wanting to go to LS in the US? Canadian law schools are much more affordable from what I've seen.

For the most part, unless I change my mind, I am most likely to go to a local Canadian law school. I am just making sure that I look at all of my options (just got my LSAT yesterday and it was higher than I expected), so that I can make the right decision.

H is a numbers game. You have a decent shot at H, but probably after a few months waiting. Retake for 2-3 more points would not be a bad play

Seeing as Canadian law schools put a lot more emphasis on GPA than on the LSAT, UToronto seems pretty much perfect for you. Unless you get HYS, go there and don't look back.

True. Again I'm as close as possible to 100% when it comes to staying in Canada.

Actually our system is a bit different here. We have no school that is so decisively good that you'd be better off going there than a local school. For instance if you wanted to practice in Vancouver or Calgary, UToronto may not be the best choice.

If you ask a lot of practicing lawyers and law students, they will tell you to choose the local school instead of one across the country, but it all depends on WHERE you want to practice

If you're committed to practicing in Canada, it's probably better to go to school there. Maybe Harvard would still be worth it. I don't know.

If you want to practice here, you'll get some worthwhile offers with your numbers. Retake if you want Harvard or Columbia.
