Definitely retake.
Seriously though, the usual suspects: ED UVA, RD NU/GULC.

RD, NU is likely. ED to Penn or UVA are likely. You'll pay close to sticker. Most splitters seem to suggest not EDing and see what happens with this environments cycle.
Gratz on the 180, can I ask, did you study at a conservatory?

Depends on what it would say... don't write one just to write one. If its gonna be like, "i was immature, blah blah" just let them assume itDufayshomeboy wrote:Didn't study at a conservatory...4 year university, not a top school by any means but very, very good for my major (music performance).
I assume a GPA addendum is a must?

Ah, just curious. Had my friend grad from one and was curious how they do on the LSAT.Dufayshomeboy wrote:Didn't study at a conservatory...4 year university, not a top school by any means but very, very good for my major (music performance).

Don't worry about your UG, shouldnt matter much for non HYS schools.
+1 to manoftheminute about the addendum. It would be nice but without a good reason its just better to not write one

It's tough to say if a splitter of this magnitude is a lock anywhere, mostly becAuse even tough your LSAT is perfect, a school like unc might wait list you thinking " oh he's gonna ED UVA anyway."Dufayshomeboy wrote:I'm sure this part of my question got overlooked, but is it Unlikely, Likely, or Lock at UNC Chapel Hill?
I'd say very likely just to be safe.

Re: 2.97/180 Splitter
Your odds depend completely on how effectively you can convince them you will actually attend. Odds are, as a splitter, you won't get even close to a full ride there. And so even TLS will tell you not to attend that school at that price.Dufayshomeboy wrote:I'm sure this part of my question got overlooked, but is it Unlikely, Likely, or Lock at UNC Chapel Hill?

Not going to say anything about your chances at UNC, but I will personally vouch for them being a bit stingy, and they don't negotiate scholarships at all. You can probably get into an equivalent or superior school and pay much less to go.

GPA is simply horrendous. To be honest, it's going to be a reach everywhere except UNC, so don't get your hopes up. Go ahead and apply ED to UVA, NU, etc though.

Sup OP, I have lower stats than you (2.8/176) and got into NU, GULC, and UVa. They are NOT reaches and you can certainly get into them if you play your cards right. I would NOT ED to UVA if I were you though. I didn't and I got in. I think if you want to you can try ED-ing somewhere ranked higher (see: Jammasterj's suggestion of a Penn ED) but I'm not 100% well versed on how those EDs turn out (mostly because there are so few people with our numbers range who try to ED to those schools that it's really impossible to know for sure).
Congratulations on your awesome score. (:

Re: 2.97/180 Splitter
Congrats on that score you animal.
I know I'll be in the minority here, but I am in the camp that says go for the GPA addendum. You are given the opportunity to write a half page. Don't not use it. Include something in there you couldn't in your personal statement and diversity statement.
Yes, writing typical stuff will get it briefly looked over and discarded, and there's a chance of it coming across poorly and hurting you which is a bad gamble to take when the most likely outcome will be it is briefly looked at and tossed aside.
But the application process is a chance for you to show who you are to the school. When you are playing with numbers at target schools, there's no point. But to reach and personal top choices, I see no reason to leave a "shore up your weaknesses" field blank.

Re: 2.97/180 Splitter
I think that's the right idea. I don't think I'd ED at all, though if you really want a particular school you could, as long as you're aware that you're passing up on some money by doing so.Dufayshomeboy wrote:Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I had been wondering about applying ED to UVA. I think I'll take your advice and not apply ED there.
I wouldn't write a GPA addendum unless you had a story to tell about your GPA. Bad GPAs happen and admissions folks know that. Your LSAT is your proof that you can probably hack it. I wouldn't add an addendum unless it really added something.

TITCR. That GPA is obviously going to hurt you, but with a 180, you just never know.JamMasterJ wrote:ED Penn
Congrats on the 180, by the way. Super impressive.

I think ED Penn is actually the way to go here. If that doesn't pan out, ED UVA.

Congrats. It is my opinion that you will get in at all of the schools you list.Dufayshomeboy wrote:Hey all,
Yes the 180 is real. Undergrad GPA was 3.0, down to 2.97 w/ LSAC weights. Degree is in music performance, lots of arts organization involvement, some volunteer work, and only about half a year work experience while in college (which partially explains the low GPA).
What are my chances at a school like Duke, Northwestern, UVA, Chicago?
What about UNC Chapel Hill?
Thanks in advance!

I'd say blanket the T14 - you'll be in somewhere and with any luck might get some money
