ED strategy (CCNMVP)

Post by ercmilla » Fri Jan 11, 2013 3:58 pm

Let's say my goal was to get into the best school possible (3.21/175 FYI). What would be the best ED strategy? I was thinking maybe throw an ED at one or two of CCN, then if I don't get in I can apply ED to Penn or UVA (or both). I think you get the idea. What would you recommend?

One of CCN -> P -> V

(Not saying any of these schools are better than the other, but in terms of admissions standards that's what I would do).

I think you will get into P no problem with an ED.

Not at the same time, of course. I'd wait until I got rejected, then ED to the next school in the list. Is there enough time during the ED period to do this at a few schools in the Thread Title?

You'll definitely get into UVA with an ED with those numbers. They won't want to pass up a 175.

Don't ED to two schools at the same time.

Ah. Then yes.

Especially with the second ED wave which a few schools do.

I still suggest taking money even with your intense splitter numbers.

There is no guarantee of money. If I do get money, it will be maybe 30k from NU or GULC. I think given that option, I would attend CCN and PV at sticker over NU/GULC minus 30k.

In short, I'm just not sure it's worth risking an RD.

Very similar numbers and considering a similar strategy.

While thinking through, it seemed like these numbers give very little chance at CC ED and would thus be a waste of ED time. Am I wrong?

I mean it depends what you want to do. I'm at MVP with a small scholarship but if I were going to go back in time I would have applied to ED to GW and taken the $. You never know where you are going to end up on the curve. I've done well -- I have a job and am in the grade range for clerkships -- and like my school but I definitely should have taken the money.

Historically speaking you are almost certainly in with Penn ED and almost certainly out at CC. But this year is so weird that I don't know what to think anymore :|

ED will get you NYU, Penn and UVA. Still not likely to land you Chicaco and CLS. You'll be waitlisted at Penn if you don't ED.

You are looking at ~$50k from Michigan and $37k from NYU if you are accepted. You'll be paying sticker at UVA.

I would have figured since NYU is ranked higher scholarships would be harder to get. However, since NYU's my dream school I'm glad I was wrong. This is just more motivation to keep studying for the LSAT. I love TLS just for that reason.

I just don't think you're right here. NYU doesn't give splitters scholarship money. Michigan ... maybe. I've seen it in some cases, but it's hard to predict and seems sporadic. I think I'll be paying sticker wherever I go, so I'm leaning toward schools that give me the best job prospects.
