3.92/159 - going to LS this fall, where is worth the app
Hey all TLS people south of the border,
I took a gap year after undergrad because I wasn't really dead set on LS until after the fall semester of my senior year and didn't have time to prepare for LSAT and get Apps in, etc... Anyways I was just on a golf scholarship in the states and I really wanted to go to a t-14 for LS (I am Canadian) mainly to create job prospects in some of the bigger centers like Boston/NYC and especially for the possibility of working abroad. I currently do sports management stuff in Asia and thought I would study for the LSAT, writing it in the only administration in China in December. As the subject line gave away, I bombed the shit out of it with test day nerves and writing it on a work trip, not to mention I did about 50% of the prep I wanted to. I was PT-ing in the upper 160's consistently and thought the extra pressure could put me into the 170's, and my fall back plan was go to a Canadian law school which still leaves open the possibility of passing the bar in Cali, NY, and Mass. post graduation.
I'm re-writing in February because a couple schools in Canada will accept that score for this cycle, but what I really want to know is if it is a total waste of money to throw in some apps in the t-14 with an addendum. I've pretty much been working 12 hour days, 6 days a week for 5 monthes straight which has severly limited my preparation, and I think the rest of my application is stellar, although add comms would probably just say sit out a year and give us a better score. The thing is, I've already taken one gap year which has been hard enough, and I don't think I could do another. I need to be engaged and passionate about where I invest my time and energy, and I'm not sure I can find osmething like that short term.
Props to anyone who gets through that long winded post and I do appreciate any respones.

best option is to take another year and get the LSAT up. You just have to weigh your short term misery against the possibility of many years of it. If you don't care about app fees, I suppose you could toss those in whenever, but make sure to note you are sitting for the Feb. exam.

It will not be worth it to attend any schools that you could get into with your current stats. You cannot get into the T14.
Your best chance is to retake in June and reapply to US schools in the fall (if you want to go to a US school).

It would definitely be flushing hundreds of dollars down the toilet to apply. There is no addendum you could write that would get any T14 school to overlook your score. The LSAT is not like one's GPA; you have "do-overs" with the former.Jdn wrote: I'm re-writing in February because a couple schools in Canada will accept that score for this cycle, but what I really want to know is if it is a total waste of money to throw in some apps in the t-14 with an addendum..
Prepare properly, take the test under favorable conditions, and apply next fall.

You're about to make a $200,000+ investment and are admitting that you haven't done then necessary preparation because you've been overworked. It would be a foolish decision not to retake here and invest the time into studying. None of the schools you can get into will give you "job prospects in some of the bigger centers like Boston/NYC" that justify the cost. Yeah, you're in your twenties and every year seems like a decade, but what will REALLY suck is two actual decades of debt hanging over your head.
Retake.
