Huge Splitter, 2.8/167
I have a 2.8 in mechanical engineering from a top private university in california, live in socal, just got my score back at 167. Pretty wide open with where I want to go, list goes like:
Boston College
Boston University
Florida State
George Washington
Hastings
Loyola
UNC
SMU
Miami
Wake Forest
William and Mary
I also was interested in Virginia but I've heard that even with an ED, its not even worth it to apply.
In terms of softs, I have work experience in top construction management firms, as well as have been working for a law firm on and off for about 5 years. Rush chairman for my fraternity and VP recruitment of a greek honor/leadership society on campus. Also, over spring break went to Honduras with engineers without borders to bring running water to a town, all of this is listed on both my resume and in my personal statement.
Already checked out LSN, just looking for some input on where you guys think I could get in. Thanks.
EDIT: Also, I heard that for splitters such as myself, I have a decent chance at schools where my LSAT is above the 75th percentile, is this true? If so, that works for most of the schools I listed

The top public wherever you have residency may be a good option. If you're not concerned about $$, just apply broadly and enjoy the ride. Probably wouldn't bother with Hastings. Any school trying to hold an LSAT median b/w 165-167 may throw a little money your way.

Boston College - Out
Boston University - Out
Florida State - In
George Washington - Out
Hastings - In / Waitlist
UNC - Out
SMU -
Miami - In
Wake Forest - In
William and Mary - In / Waitlist
Any reason why you have FSU and Miami but not UF?

You may have a shot at wustl if the LSAT median dropped which I think it did. The good news for you is that while you won't be able to attend a great school you will get the IP boost if that's what you plan on going into.

Thanks for the link. Yea, a 168 splitter becomes pretty valuable to a school like wustl who has always been splitter friendly with the decline in apps. I had slightly better LSAT slightly worse gpa than OP and got some cheddar from wustl. With the median down to 166, OP might have a similar result.Nova wrote:Yep, the new median is 166TheZoid wrote:You may have a shot at wustl if the LSAT median dropped which I think it did. Current hastings student here with a BS in Comp Sci.
I have no idea what you want to do or where you want to work, but if you are interested in biglaw and want to practice IP lit/prosecution AND get top ~%15 first year, Hastings might not be a bad choice.
Very few students here have technical backgrounds and a lot of firms (SF, Palo Alto, SV, San Jose) want people for prosecution.
Again, you do well your first year, you will dominate OCI's and land a job.
Good luck to you.
