Splitter URM(~)... looking for money in the T30
GPA:3.3, LSAT 166 URM(Hispanic). I applied to one school last cycle, a few days before the app was due (in March) and was accepted with a modest scholarship. I'm mostly interested in this one school, Ranked 30-45. This makes me think that I stand a good chance to be accepted again with some scholly money if I play my cards right.
What other schools should I apply to in the top 50 that will offer me generous scholarships that I can hopefully use to compare? I've got the lower ranked California Schools, both AZ schools on my list. Where else should I look?
Thanks

You should at least give the bottom T14s a shot. Especially Berkley and Georgetown. Obviously you don't want to hear this, but with a few extra LSAT points, you'd have a huge advantage with your cycle.
Consider retake?

What kind of hispanic? If MA/PR, then youll most likely get money at schools with medians of 166 or below.

Not Ma/PR, so whatever boost I get is harder to quantify.
Also Berkeley? Really? I always thought they were perhaps the most GPA focused school. With that said, I do have pretty unusual work experience, that I think a more holistic looking school might value and I know they advertise themselves as such.
Thanks for the note on LSAT. I've definitely thought about a retake, and don't really have the time/energy this year to make that happen. I'm not 100% sold on starting school this fall, so if I apply and don't like my options a retake might be in the cards. I was PT'ing in the low 170's so it seems like my score is pretty consistent with that~5pt drop folks experience.
I'm also above my target schools 75th percentile LSAT score... would a jump from 166 to 170 really do much for me in terms of scholarship negotiation? I know it will open the door for me at other schools.

To my knowledge there is some California law that either discourages or prevents schools from giving the same massive URM boost that other states do not to mention that Berkeley's admissions formula is a huge unknown anyway. So the morale is don't bank on it but as a URM you never know and it's worth the app if you want to attend.

The CA and MI laws have no discernible effect. Compare these two sets of results (not the OP's stats):2014 wrote:To my knowledge there is some California law that either discourages or prevents schools from giving the same massive URM boost that other states do not to mention that Berkeley's admissions formula is a huge unknown anyway. This discussion has no practical meaning for the OP, however, because the OP is non-URM.

Woops missed Hispanic in the OP and assumed after his reply to Nova that he was NA/AA
Probably not going to get a large enough offer from any school worth attending, sorry OP.

Don't psych yourself out about a drop. If you were PT'ing in the 170s you should definitely retake. The difference between a 166 and a 170, in terms of admission, is huge.zekeattack wrote:Not Ma/PR, so whatever boost I get is harder to quantify.
