3.94/164 Reverse Splitter

Post by vdog » Tue Aug 14, 2012 5:25 pm

LSAC GPA: 3.94 (business econ w/ math & philosophy classes)
LSAT: 164 (weakest part of app, don't know if I can pull it up)
non-URM, K-JD, young applicant, hopefully good LOR's and essays.
Various white-collar PT jobs, decent volunteering, student organization leadership, no awards.
No disciplinary record.

Chances for:
HSCoN: No chance with that LSAT, I know...
UVA (September ED)
Penn
Berkeley
NU (really want to attend for Kellogg/b-school slant, but no full-time W/E will hurt me)
Cornell
Duke
Gtown
Vandy
BC
BU
Fordham
W&M
Cardozo
UConn (IS)

You're in at UVA ED, but do you really want to go to UVA at sticker when you can do much better? You're young. You have time. Study, retake, get work experience.

URM?

If not I'd say you have a pretty good shot under VB on your list.

UVA is not likely but possible at ED. LSN has a few people who have been admitted with your numbers who were ED.

Are you able to retake??

HSCoN: No chance with that LSAT, I know... Yeah, you're definitely out.
UVA I got in ED with a 166/4.0 in 2010, so maybe?(September ED)
Penn out
Berkeley likely out barring a really killer PS
NU (really want to attend for Kellogg/b-school slant, but no full-time W/E will hurt me) likely out w/o WE
Cornell WL/In
Duke WL but probably out
Gtown out
Vandy WL/In
BC In
BU In
Fordham in
W&M in w/ $
Cardozo in w/ $
UConn (IS) in w/ $$

I hate to be the TLS broken record, but a retake could do you some good. A 4-5 more points and you're looking at a lot more acceptances + $

Are you thinking about ED at Penn? Im no expert on Penn admissions, but lsn shows a decent % getting in at those #'s ED. This could just be an anomaly.... any one have any opinion on this?

Penn and UVA have basically identical admissions standards. If you're competitive at one, you're competitive at the other.

OP here,

Just wanted some chances with current stats, and will retake in October (my strong point is Logic Games, so it would be difficult to raise it to 172+. I'm only aiming for 168-172 at this point). However, I am comfortable paying sticker for Virginia, Penn, Berkeley, and NU and most of the cost for Cornell & Duke. I'm just trying to determine which schools I should apply to pre-retake and post-retake.

I thought about Penn ED (b/c of NYC placement and business slant), but didn't like the ED stipulation or the lack of coverage in the Southeast. UVA, from what I can gather, has slightly more consistent coverage along the East Coast. The suburban environment, the warm weather, and the less adversarial nature of the campus are also much more conducive to learning for me.

There is no such thing as a reverse splitter, they are just people that need to retake. Good decision OP, and good luck.

If you don't break 170, retake again even if it means taking time off between UG and law school to work. You should consider doing that anyway.

3.94/169: above one median and below another at UVA and Penn, will receive little $ if at all
3.94/170+: above one median and at (or above) another, will receive $$$ as long as you can stave off YP
