Low GPA but with a perfect LSAT Score
Hey guys,
So here is my current circumstance: I didn't take classes seriously in college because I wanted to pursue the path of an entrepreneur and try to start my own business. The startups that I was a part of included a few web ecommerce stores, an import/distribution company, as well as a few others. None of them became super successful but I feel like I gained a lot of business insight and knowledge in the entire process.
I am 4 years removed from school, and graduated with a ~2.9 GPA from UCLA (hoping that the university ranking will be to my benefit) with an Economics degree. I started off in Pre-Med but left (did horribly in the classes).
My biggest regret right now is that I didn't take school more seriously. Looking back I know I could've done much better (but that's true with most other people).
So here are my two questions
1) What are the top schools I will have a low to medium chance of getting into should I write a killer essay + score a perfect on the LSAT?
2) I won't be able to get any good recommendations from professors so will going to UCLA extension classes help boost my resume as a student (granted I get strong A's)? On topic, would a LOR from an exchange class professor be a bad idea? Should I aim to attend classes somewhere else to get a better/more credible professor to write me a LOR?

Go take the LSAT, then return with a serious question.
But if you REALLY want to know, take a look at this person's cycle with similar numbers to what you are suggesting.

Re: Low GPA but with a perfect LSAT Score
Let me rephrase my original question then. What if I got between a 175-180? I'm just trying to gauge what a 4 years removed candidate with some entrepreneurial experience would fare against others. I checked out the law school predictor websites but I wanted to throw in a few other variables rather than just the numbers.
Or if numbers are really that important/indicative of where I'll be able to go, please let me know and I'll just base it off of that.
Thanks!

That's a little broader search. Honestly though, getting a 175+ for the vast majority of people is not easy, and it's not something you should bank on, at least until you can really start PTing in that range reguarly. Beyond that, super splitters can be hard to predict. A lot of schools really don't like sub 3.0 GPAs.

Won't make a difference in your applications.cwang22 wrote: UCLA (hoping that the university ranking will be to my benefit)
Also, scoring a 175+ is not easy.

Re: Low GPA but with a perfect LSAT Score
Assuming 2.9/180 ... T14 might look something like this:
No chance: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Berkeley
Very slim chance: Columbia, Chicago, Penn, Cornell, Duke
Slim chance: NYU, Michigan
Okay chance: UVA, Northwestern, Georgetown
HTH

Assuming a 180, with WE, your best chance at a T14 would be Northwestern.

Still, generally, a ridiculous hypothetical.
What are you PTing at?

Given that we tend to say that assuming a 170 is ridiculous you should consider yourself lucky that anyone gave a serious reply to your question.

You are assuming a 175-180?!?!
This thread should be good.
May I ask why you assume this?
