174 3.4+ ED at T10
Recently got waitlisted at Chicago and Penn. What do you think my chances are, assuming I don't get in off waitlist, of getting into one ED next year? Will then have a year of work experience and a little better GPA (easy classes this semester). Thanks in advanced!

I agree with this. Did you apply RD for MVP this cycle?hoos89 wrote:I'd guess you have a pretty solid chance at uva ED. you might also want to look into michigan and penn.

You'd probably get NYU ED.

170+/3.4+ ED seems to be pretty much autoadmit at Penn.

Thanks everyone!
Really limiting it to Chicago or Penn. Not a fan of NYC and SO needs a city for work so that leaves out UVA and Mich.
It looks like Penn is my best option. Will it count against me that I already applied and was waitlisted? On their website it looks like they don't look too highly at those who reapply after rejection

I don't think reapplying could ever be a bad thing. If anything, it shows commitmentMSZ wrote:Thanks everyone!

Chicago is being super lame with GPA lately and will be tough even with ED.MSZ wrote:Thanks everyone!

Penn will ask for new LORs if you reapply, although I doubt they'd just toss your file away if the LORs are the same.

Do you anticipate your GPA going above a 3.5?

No, maybe up to a 3.48 or so.

I mean if debt's not a factor for you then you can ED Penn, but man I just couldn't throw an ED there with those numbers. I suspect you'll get off the WL this year.

When you say you couldn't throw an ED there with my numbers, is it because the numbers are too good for an ED or I just don't have a chance?UnamSanctam wrote:I mean if debt's not a factor for you then you can ED Penn, but man I just couldn't throw an ED there with those numbers. The former, but if it were me then I wouldn't be restricting myself to Penn or Chicago, either (so we're different there). You could get lucky with a Chi ED, but I know Chi EDers with better numbers that didn't get in. I'm confident you'd get Penn ED, but you'd be giving up scholarship money.MSZ wrote:When you say you couldn't throw an ED there with my numbers, is it because the numbers are too good for an ED or I just don't have a chance?UnamSanctam wrote:I mean if debt's not a factor for you then you can ED Penn, but man I just couldn't throw an ED there with those numbers. OP would be giving up scholarship money...but not to Penn. Outside of Michigan, Georgetown, they're unlikely to get big $$ in the t-14.
If you don't get it this year, I'd ED to UPenn next year and I'd be very surprised if you didn't get it. I think it's kind of silly to do that when you could get NYU, but each to their own. Living somewhere you don't love for 3 years for better job prospects seems like a good trade to me. It's not as if you're deciding between two wildly different places like Texas and NYC.

This is credited. Penn is one of the T14s I'm least familiar with, so my scholarship perceptions there are probably shaky.hdsoc wrote:OP would be giving up scholarship money...but not to Penn. Outside of Michigan, Georgetown, they're unlikely to get big $$ in the t-14.

Yeah, OP would almost definitely be in ED at Penn (generally, 170+ and 3.3+ and you're in with ED), and wouldn't get scholarship money there anyway.hdsoc wrote:OP would be giving up scholarship money...but not to Penn. Outside of Michigan, Georgetown, they're unlikely to get big $$ in the t-14.

Philly > NYC in many aspects. Cheesesteaks being the most important.Yeshia90 wrote:I can't possibly imagine the kind of twisted soul who prefers Philadelphia to New York City.hdsoc wrote:OP would be giving up scholarship money...but not to Penn. Yeah but if you want to be in a good neighborhood you only have like 2 blocks to choose from.Nelson wrote:The kind of twisted soul who enjoys paying less than 1k/month for a decent apartment in a good neighborhood.Yeshia90 wrote:I can't possibly imagine the kind of twisted soul who prefers Philadelphia to New York City.hdsoc wrote:OP would be giving up scholarship money...but not to Penn. I actually like philly a lot and lived there for a few years, but to me there's no question of NYC's superiority. The only thing I miss is BYOB restaurants.
