Re: 175/3.56 - Music Producer/Photographer/Journalist/Do-Gooder
You are probably a little late for H, but you have very little chance there anyways with the 3.56. You aren't too late for CLS/NYU if you get your app in as soon as possible and you won't risk missing out on money at either because they do scholarships at the end of the cycle (CLS has named schollys that you won't qualify for anyways that you would have missed the deadline for).
You could throw an app Yale's way, but I highly doubt anything will come of it. Last cycle the lowest GPA accepted was a 3.63 or something, and your academic background, while interesting, is probably going to seem too pre-professional to them (Yale uses faculty members to review apps and as a result they like more typically academic majors).
Basically I think you haven't hurt your chances at CLS/NYU too much. HYS aren't going to happen anyways so you have nothing to lose by applying now.

+1 to this advice. I think some of the posters here are being a tad optimistic. I'm not sure your chances at anything above CCN are good enougg to pass up getting in this cycle...unless you're indifferent to waiting another year, in which case why not.chasgoose wrote:You are probably a little late for H, but you have very little chance there anyways with the 3.56. TBH, yes there is. Get them in as soon as possible. You probably will get fee waivers to both CLS and NYU so at the very least it won't cost too much. If you don't get in this cycle, you will next year if you apply earlier (most likely to both).jimmychalk wrote:Yeah, I definitely agree that HYS are a stretch and I'm planning on jumping in this cycle. Unfortunately, I'll probably be getting my apps in very close to Feb 1. Think there's a huge difference in acceptance probability between Jan 15 and Feb 1?

I don't think OP is sure bet, or even a good bet, at HYS. I think that he is within the realm of possibility, and would be foolish not to try, given that he actually does have some fairly unique experiences.

OP: I think that before you go to law school, this year or next, you need to seriously research what kind of work you would be doing. Not because you seem too idealistic, but because I'm not sure you have any idea what practicing law entails. Maybe there is a great way to connect your current work with practicing law. It would be worth it to find out. I'm a bit concerned that you will find it boring and tedious after the work you have been doing. I'm sure you are great at research! Apply and see what happens.
