LSAT: 166

What are my chances of the following schools and chances of scholarship $$?
UVA
University of Texas - Austin
UPenn
W&M
W&L
George Mason
UGA
Richmond
Georgia State
Alabama
Wake Forest
UNC
South Carolina

I know some are big reaches and some are easy admits, but would like to get a second opinion.

I thought I may at least have a shot at UT, even if it is a long one. Why the deny there?

Re: 166/3.81 - SC Resident
In the past you probably would have had a good shot, but this year their admissions decisions have been batshit crazy. Take a look at the UT thread in Acceptances/Denials/Waitlists or at the graph from this year on LSN. Auto-admits from years past have turned into auto-denies this year (not sure if it's their rise into the T-14 or something else causing this). If you were a TX resident you'd have a much better chance.SPE155 wrote:I thought I may at least have a shot at UT, even if it is a long one. Why the deny there?
If you really want T14, it might be worth it to throw an app at Cornell; I think you definitely have a better shot there than at UT. Otherwise, you might want to retake - even a couple extra points could do wonders for you. (I know this advice seems overused on TLS, but take it from someone that did retake that it really IS the correct answer sometimes).
ETA: Obviously no one knows for sure how your cycle will turn out, and I also meant to add that I have no idea about money at W&L, W&M, and George Mason.

Re: 166/3.81 - SC Resident
Thanks for the info. The 166 was from a retake, my first attempt I literally was in the ER the night before and scored a 153 (I know I should have cancelled but I was optimistic). 166 is also what I was scoring on PTs and more than likely wouldn't see a big improvement worth taking an extra year. I really appreciate the input though.

Re: 166/3.81 - SC Resident
Finalized list of where I applied:
UVA (ED) - wrote Why UVA essay
Duke
UPenn
UT
Vandy
GW
W&M
W&L
UGA
Emory
Alabama
Miami
UNC
Wake
I got fee waivers so I went over board on applications. My essays are awesome, 4 yrs working experience, and average softs. Do what you do and rip apart this list.

probably a better bet to ED Duke because UVa or Penn almost assuredly won't happen. what about michigan or cornell?

Yeah I know that many schools at the top of that list won't happen, but UVA is my top choice, thus the ED there.paulinaporizkova wrote:probably a better bet to ED Duke because UVa or Penn almost assuredly won't happen. what about michigan or cornell?
As for the other schools listed, I primarily would like to stay in the southeast both for school and practice, which led me to not apply to schools that I may not provide the same type of employment advantages I would perfer.
Why do you think the ED at Duke would be better than at UVA? From a number's perspective I was much closer to UVA medians than Duke.

I can only speak to these:
UVA - Waitlist/Deny (You should ED, it's your best shot at T14)
University of Texas - Austin - Waitlist/Accept
UPenn - Deny
Duke - Deny

That is more or less what I expect. Although I have heard UT is being more numbers focused this year, which makes me a bit nervous there also, especially not being from Texas.kertz wrote:I can only speak to these:

V literally does not take people under both medians unless they're desperate and pulling from the WL in July. Idk if other schools are as strict. Whoever said northwestern is legit, since I'm pretty sure you are above their gpa medianSPE155 wrote:Yeah I know that many schools at the top of that list won't happen, but UVA is my top choice, thus the ED there.paulinaporizkova wrote:probably a better bet to ED Duke because UVa or Penn almost assuredly won't happen. what about michigan or cornell?

Thats just not true with numbers below both medians. Do you have any reason to say this? Or just making up what you want to believe?kertz wrote:I can only speak to these:

Re: 166/3.81 - SC Resident
I'm actually a little surprised myself, but UVA is 4th in median UGPA at 3.85. The only schools with a higher median gpa are YHS.Br3v wrote:Is a 3.81 below the median?AssumptionRequired wrote:Thats just not true with numbers below both medians.
