Chances at T14 for 2012 Cycle? Extreme URM Splitter 172/2.7
URM/172/2.7 from non HYP Ivy.
Currently debating whether I should retake in June. If I applied early decision, which one of NYU, Mich, Virginia would I stand a better chance of getting in to? I have a decent addendum for low grades (dad lost his job, had to work almost full time during school, yadda yadda) and I also have pretty good softs: will have 2 full years of work experience at a non profit research company, we do program evaluation for low income assistance, etc. along with the whole first generation college student angle.
Thoughts?
Edit: Reason I want to retake is that I think I can do much better with proper studying (2 or 3 months). I literally took 8 practice tests the week and a half before the December LSAT and that was the entire extent of my prep. If I read the powerscore bibles for LR and RC and set up a decent study plan, I think I can easily break 177. The question is whether a higher LSAT would even help me at all, with my GPA being so poor.

One in the What are my chances forums and one in the URM forums, so a grand total of 2.

Yeah if you are Mex and you believe you have a decent shot at improving then I'd probably say try for a retake. At the very least it won't harm you as long as u don't get a worse score (I retook a similar score, got about the same and it didn't affect my cycle negatively)

OP is URM, so his cycle will be vastly different than ours, I think.thisisme wrote:I don't really know re the schools you listed but my impression is it will be a tough road.
Check out NU if you haven't already, they are very splitter friendly (especially if you have good WE)
They've already taken me and crumpetsandtea this cycle and we're 177/2.77 176/2.8 and respectively.
Best of luck.
If you want, you can follow my cycle at http://lawschoolnumbers.com/whimsical , but honestly you should blanket the T14, including HYS and CCN. Make sure your application is AWESOME, start writing all your PS/DS/Why X statements NOW, and ask your professors to start writing your LORs NOW so that you can apply in September and get the best boost possible.
ETA: oops, I'm dumb and missed your ED question. TBH I have no idea. URM cycles and splitter cycles are NOTORIOUSLY hard to predict, and when you put them together...yeah. Just ED to the school you like the most. If you want T6, ED to NYU.
