169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
Here are the schools I'm applying to. Just for my own peace of mind, does anyone mind giving me some chances I will get into each one?
Chicago - Kent, Illinois Institute of Technology
Depaul University
George Mason University
University of Illinois
William and Mary
University of Tennessee
Penn State University
Retook the test, but there is no guarantee I did any better. Would hope I got a 170-171 at least.

You should apply to WUSTL. Very splitter-friendly.givemea170 wrote:Here are the schools I'm applying to. Just for my own peace of mind, does anyone mind giving me some chances I will get into each one?

Also Indiana - you are probably in with 100K - 120K in scholarship money.givemea170 wrote:Here are the schools I'm applying to. Just for my own peace of mind, does anyone mind giving me some chances I will get into each one?

This is probably a stupid reason... but the idea of living in St. Louis makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Cardinal country. hahaemkay625 wrote:You should apply to WUSTL. Haven't read this forum until today, but safe to say I am definitely a splitter. Didn't put an ounce of effort into my undergraduate degree and now I'm regretting it. Didn't decide on law school until senior year and was already too late.

Yeah, I guess I should mention I'm applying to a few more schools than that list. Indiana is on it, as well as Boston University and Boston College. I want to live in the midwest or northeast and work there, but applying to UT-Knoxville as a favor to my mother.emkay625 wrote:Also Indiana - you are probably in with 100K - 120K in scholarship money.givemea170 wrote:Here are the schools I'm applying to. Where do you want to practice law in once you're finished with school?

My undergraduate is a dual major in finance and accounting. Or did you mean to ask where? If so, I would like to live/work in Chicago if possible.

Yes, I meant where as in the city. : )givemea170 wrote:tax, bankruptcy, compensation, etc.emkay625 wrote:Where do you want to practice law in once you're finished with school?

If Chicago is what you want, you should be focusing on schools in Illinois/Chicago.
(Also, is a retake an option? 172 would get you a good shot at NU).

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
UIUC is my first choice and according to the law school predictor it puts me with a 42% chance, which is the main reason I retook and figured that if i can improve my score a few points that it'll bump up to above 50%.

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
I spoke with an advisor and he pretty much told me I'd need a 174-175 to get into Northwestern with my GPA, so I gave up on that hope. I am kicking myself because if I had focused at all I'd have no problem getting into NU I'd think. I did retake though, yesterday, and am hoping my 169 bumps to a 170-171.emkay625 wrote:Yes, I meant where as in the city. : )givemea170 wrote:tax, bankruptcy, compensation, etc.emkay625 wrote:Where do you want to practice law in once you're finished with school?

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
Yeah, I think you're probably aiming too low with that list and a 169. WUSTL is probably a solid place to apply (minus the cards, obvi), but I would also look at Wake, SMU, Tulane, Pepperdine, etc. Check out LSN, it's a really good resource for inquiries like this one -- a quick search of last years applicants showed that a couple people with numbers right around yours got into Notre Dame and Fordham on the WL, and some even got into Michigan, BC, etc. (not likely, but apparently it happens). I would definitely reevaluate your targets and keep the list you have as a list of safeties...a 169 will open more doors for you than your GPA will close.
EDIT: after seeing your preference for Chicago, I would say to maybe reach at OSU, Wisconsin, or Notre Dame. You'll be in at IU-B, probably UIUC, and in with $$$ at DePaul and Kent. Just apply ASAP!

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
Was going to apply to Notre Dame for sure but based on what I've seen, it seems like a stretch. The fact you said probably UIUC is very encouraging. Have bled orange my whole life and have family there. Even if I could get into a slightly better school than uiuc, the benefits of going there outweigh the lost gains.swilson215 wrote:Yeah, I think you're probably aiming too low with that list and a 169. Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
Wow, how did someone get waitlisted with a 2.57 GPA and a 162 LSAT? Looks like you're right, not my advisor, but I think he meant that the chances would be very small. The graph seems to confirm that, I'd say based on the graph my chances are 15-20% with the 169...

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
Looking at that website, it looks like the highest LSAT score to get rejected at UIUC is 159... so I should be entirely safe with a 169, right?
That website is awesome. How accurate/reliable are the statistics?

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
You're never *entirely* safe anywhere, but I would say that UIUC is a safe bet for you. LSN is entirely self-reported, so who can ever really know how accurately people are depicting themselves? But, in my experience it's fairly accurate. Check out the last few years at a few of the schools you're interested in. I'd say that the schools you listed in your OP would probably all be solid safeties for you.givemea170 wrote:Looking at that website, it looks like the highest LSAT score to get rejected at UIUC is 159... so I should be entirely safe with a 169, right?

Also, splitters should ALWAYS apply as early as the possibly can. If you're planning on applying this cycle, I would have your applications out in the next two weeks for sure. If you're going to wait until next year, get them in to your schools in September or October. Every little bit counts, and the earlier you apply the more likely you are to get in (as a splitter).

Yep, I am submitting my applications all in the next two weeks. Hopefully that will not be too late.

Re: 169 LSAT/2.93 GPA
For the record, it's stupid to not apply to WUSTL even if you don't want to come here because of a sports team. First, because that's a pretty stupid reason to pick a law school, second, because of scholly negotiations. Unless UIUC is feeling humbled by their scandal, they probably still aren't viewing 120k from IU as something they need to come close to matching. They will at least match and probably try to beat w/e WUSTL offers you this year though, and if last year is any guide, that is going to be 75k.

To be honest, I'm not that familiar with the process. Had no idea schools had access to other schools' offers.Kabuo wrote:For the record, it's stupid to not apply to WUSTL even if you don't want to come here because of a sports team. They don't, but you can tell them your other offers in an attempt to negotiate more $.givemea170 wrote:To be honest, I'm not that familiar with the process.
