3.9/167 - do I have a shot at the t14?

Post by mnw992 » Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:28 am

Hey everyone, I got a 167 on my October LSAT (had been getting around 170 consistently, so a little disappointed) and am really hoping to go t14. I have a 3.91 GPA from a top 20 private school, and am coming straight from undergrad with decent softs. Do I have a shot at the t14? Or should I retake the LSAT and try to bring up my score? Also, I am not a URM.

You have a great shot at Cornell and Georgetown. Northwestern would be in play if you had some work experience.

You could apply early decision to UVA, but it may be a little bit too late for that.

ED to UVA if you need to go to school this year. If you can wait a year, study as much as you can for the June exam, get a 176+, and choose your destiny.

I honestly think anyone who has a 3.8 or higher should retake until they break 170. You can't redo college (i wish otherwise) but you can retake the LSAT.

You might have a shot. I have found the process to be more personal than the consensus on TLS would otherwise suggest. I have a 167, a GPA just under 3.8, and have been admitted to several of the top 6-7 schools in two different cycles (I decided not to go to law school two years ago). I'm not an URM. I think it's hard to evaluate your own softs and PS, &c sometimes. If you genuinely have nothing particularly interesting in your file, though, then you might still have a shot at the bottom of the T14.

Not a great shot at GTOWN.

Good shot at Cornell, decent shot at michigan, maybe gtown, could have gotten in to UVA ed.

It is probably too late to fully benefit from the ED bump for splitters at UVA, but even if it wasn't, it's inadvisable to commit yourself to sticker at a school from which you could possibly get a scholarship with a 172+ during next year's cycle and when you'd likely also be in at a number of other high ranked schools.

Also, this:

Thanks for the replies everyone. I applied to a bunch of the bottom t14s in hopes of getting at least one in this cycle. If not, I guess I'll give the LSAT another shot. I wish I knew about UVA's affinity for ED splitters earlier though. Does UVA have a bump for non-ED splitters who apply early-ish in the cycle?
