3.58 / 167 Chances at ED for UCLA? Forum

I know law school numbers but I just wanted to know if you guys think I have a good shot at getting in or if I should just apply all over the board (specifically T14s) although my numbers are low I figure I can get into at least one. The problem is that I am a west coast kid and I think I would much rather stay in California/Washington then the east coast and I don't know how portable a lower T14 degree would be compared to UCLA or USC.

A little about me.
Race:Hispanic-Other, Asian-Viet, White (non-URM)
UG: Top 50 National
Major: BA Econ

Major GPA 3:89.

Hispanic-other isn't getting T14 with those numbers in all likelihood. If you saw LSN like you said you did you'd know that.

It looked like if I applied to 7-14 I might pick up one like Cornell or Georgetown.

But thats the whole point of the thread. Should I ED to UCLA or just take my chances in the bidding pool.

I understand even with ED my shot at UCLA won't be fantastic but I believe I have a decent shot at getting in and I am not in a rush since I am still in undergrad with the hope that my GPA will increase and I wouldn't mind a year off.

I think if UCLA is your top choice, you are likely best off ED'ing unless you retake. Most of the Cali schools are pretty picky about GPA, but I think you would have a 50% ballpark shot of getting in through ED. Your LSAT is only one off the median. Be aware you're likely facing sticker, though, if you ED. I'd maybe retake Dec or next year and try to hit 170 for some good scholly chances. UCLA is my top choice and I'm retaking December before I submit my app. Best of luck!

What I keep stressing throughout TLS is that ED doesn't help applicants get an leg up with below-median scores. Schools like UCLA offer ED to take kids who are pretty much at both or above both medians who know absolutely for sure that UCLA their #1 school. ED is great to find out early if you got in, but that's pretty much its only advantage for you. And like the poster above me says, you run the risk of not getting any aid.

Not a CA Resident. Born there but raised elsewhere and would like to go back.

From my understanding ED shows your commitment to the school and if accepted it would be my top choice. I thought you did get a small boost and anything can help.

ED absolutely does give you a boost if you're below the median(s). You are guaranteeing to the school that you will be going there. If they see you are below the median(s) but still very respectable, they see you as a positive addition to the school because you passionately want to go there and guaranteed $ for the school b/c they will not have to offer a substantial scholly if they merely accept you.

Take a look at UVA's ED for an example. Right now you have people getting in ED with 165's who stand minimal to no chance at RD with that score. ED is a way to fill spots in a class while saving $ to entice RD applicants above the medians.
