Lay it on me. I don't have great softs, my letters of rec are probably adequate but not outstanding. However, I'm transgender, which must be worth some diversity points, and my personal statement is probably going to be pretty good. My surprising LSAT result has made me think I may have a chance at HYS, so I'm wondering if my transgender status might counterbalance my GPA enough to actually have a shot. Thoughts?
(Side note, my undergrad doesn't give A+s, but based on my percentages in some of my classes, if they did, my GPA would be well within range. Bah!)

HYS all have pretty hard GPA floors and only very few soft factors work to counterbalance a GPA (Olympic medalist, cured cancer, etc). I'd be surprised if you got one of them.
I definitely think you can snag one of CCN though.

Being trans isn't that big a deal in re admissions.

You're probably among a very small group of transgender applicants, but I'm not sure that HYS are going to overlook something that they wouldn't for practically any other non-URM applicant.
Remember that law schools don't report transgender stats, so it's not like they will gain much from letting you in ahead of someone with a much higher GPA. Columbia should be at the upper end of your target list. This shouldn't discourage you from applying to HYS if you have the $200-300 to spare.

Ah yep, fair enough. Thanks for the feedback! Any T14 would be great, so I'm content with that at least being within my reach.
