Re: 166,169 / 3.85
You definitely stand a chance at Michigan. I think you would be rejected from Columbia, and likely waitlisted at Penn, though perhaps you would get lucky there. But Michigan is certainly a realistic possibility.

Well, how comfortable are you with the alternatives? And would you be comfortable attending Michigan if they gave you no merit scholarship $$? If you wouldn't be ok paying full price funded entirely by loans (or whatever you have saved or set aside for school), then ED is not a good idea. Also, you have to be absolutely certain that you love the school before you ED. I often tell people that, if they have to ask whether they should ED, it is usually a sign that they shouldn't. Only ED if you are in love with the school, and couldn't see yourself anywhere else. Also, look into what other possibilities you would have. Lets say you didn't get into Michigan ED. Your most realistic shots statistically speaking would be schools like Vanderbilt, Texas, USC, BU etc. (I have no idea what your geographic preferences are). If you would be comfortable attending one of these schools (along with the scholarship $$ that will likely come your way), I wouldn't ED since I would want to see all options available and weigh them against one another.MiAiLi wrote:Should I ED, you think?

Dean Z has said that ED provides no benefit to Mich applicants. I wouldn't ED.

I think that between MVP RD, one is definitely bound to bite. You're above the GPA medians so odds are likely that if all 3 waitlist you, one of them is low on the GPA front and throws $$$ at you. Someone I followed in this thread last year got 75k to UVA with like a 3.88 and 165. They were on the WL through the summer, and I'm sure had a lot of stress, but if having a heart attack gets 75k, I'd say bring it on.

A look through LSN shows that is clearly not the case. They might not take somebody who clearly had no chance, but it very clearly helps.luxxe wrote:Dean Z has said that ED provides no benefit to Mich applicants. I wouldn't ED.
That said, I think OP will get in without an ED at Michigan. Probably in at UVA / Penn as well.
I would roll the dice with RD and see what happens.
