Do I have a shot at NYU? Forum

LSAT is 168 (low, I know) and a 3.95 from Brown-level undergrad. I would retake but 168 was my PT average and I'm not sure I can improve (did LGB/LRB and all PTs from 30 to present). Worked for a little over a year in marketing for a fortune 500 telecom/ software company. Strong LORs and I applied early decision on September 15th. Should I even get my hopes up at all for NYU or am I looking more at schools like Cornell and UCLA?

It's a toss-up. Some people got in with similar numbers, some rejected, some waitlisted.

You still have a very good shot at the lower T14 though.

If you want to work in NYC, consider EDing to Penn; they'll probably take you. There isn't a huge difference between the two in job placement.

I went to an undergrad ranked much lower than Brown and knew someone there who ED'd to NYU with exactly those numbers and was accepted. You're just below the LSAT 25th and above the GPA 75th. With the work experience and solid LOR's (along with the ED) I think you stand a pretty good chance of getting in. No guarantees of course, but if I had to bet I'd say you'll be accepted.

PS: hourumd shows that people with your numbers get into NYU 68.75% of the time. Keep in mind that data is based mostly on RD applicants.

Hourumd also hasn't been updated in two years. Safer just to go directly to LSN and use the graphs.

Good point. Sorry if my original post was a bit overly optimistic due to me looking at old data. I just searched through LSN for people over the last couple cycles with similar numbers and found very few matches and even fewer NYU acceptances. It's possible that OP will get in but far from a sure thing.

UPDATE: In at Cornell, Michigan, and UCLA with 90k & in state tuition. Still hoping for good news from NYU next month, though the poll makes it seems like an outright admit is highly unlikely. Ready to ride out that waitlist and pray, lol.
