3.87 / 170 OIF Veteran
Those are my numbers, here's the rest:
Female helicopter pilot
War veteran
Bronze Star
Air Medal
Purple Heart
Realistically, highest ranked school I have a chance to get into?

Small chance at Columbia and Chicago, decent chance at NYU, in great shape below that.

Don't wanna get your hopes up, but I think your softs are great and you might overperform your numbers.

Stanford definitely in play with that gpa and those softs. See if you can get a targeted lor for them.soj wrote:Don't wanna get your hopes up, but I think your softs are great and you might overperform your numbers.

I agree. If you have the money and take the time to put together a great app, I would consider blanketing at least YHSCCNMVPB and see what happens. Doesn't hurt much to try!soj wrote:Don't wanna get your hopes up, but I think your softs are great and you might overperform your numbers.

As an OIF veteran and current 1L at a T14, I strongly encourage you to blanket the T14 (Yale on down). Also, ask for fee waivers (just e-mail the admissions offices). Some will refuse but others won't. If you don't get at least CCN it's because you butchered your PS or had horrible recs. Write a good PS and you have a greater than zero shot at YHS (all of them, but especially Stanford).

Michigan with $ to supplement the GI Bill I assume you have. Michigan classifies them so we get the $ on top of the GI Bill.

You definitely should blanket entire T-14. Everyone says military is a great plus for softs. From what I can gather from vets' experience in previous cycles, they occasionally feel disappointed by their results. My guess is that many vets don't properly sell themselves as great candidates specifically for law school in their applications--remember, what schools are looking for is primarily your intellectual capability and how you think. There's so many various military experiences, especially if you've served overseas, that you can draw on to show these things, but remember you have to connect the dots for the admissions people. They're not gonna assume you'd be a great law student because you were a great soldier.

Re: 3.87 / 170 OIF Veteran
Thanks for the advice. I have been working on my PS since April and have done a number of revisions. I think I am good to go there. Recs are solid.
I will definitely apply to all and see who bites. If I could have scored a bit better on the LSAT, I would feel better about my chances but it is what it is and I honestly don't think I will score higher on a retake.
On to the wait game...

I think the GPA coupled with the bronze star will get you CCN. YHS is likely out, but Stanford may get a wild hair. I would apply to every single school in the T14. Blackhawk, shithook, what bird are we talking about?

Also, you must pay attention to the status of the school. Public schools are covered 100%. Private are not. So Michigan=full ride while Penn=some debt.Cavgirl wrote:Yup, have it.
