HYS. You will get into at least two of them if you apply early.Angrygeopolitically wrote:Hi,
177, 3.2 AA male. Looking for where to apply. I have the money to put out some applications in sept. So, which schools do you think I should apply to first? Maybe 3-4 applications on the 1st of September. I was thinking two reaches and maybe three schools that hand out scholarships for my numbers.... open to suggestions and lists.
Also, when do they send fee waivers? I'm worried because I took the lsat a while ago; they may not think I am in the game anymore.
Save cruelty for the lobby please. It is a stressful time for everyone.

update your lsac account (cas) with a new application year and then they will know and probably send fee waivers. Or you can also ask schools for merit based fee waivers.

Unless your essays are absolutely terrible/insulting your only real "reach" school is yale. You have an excellent shot at Harvard and below.Angrygeopolitically wrote:Hi,

I'm not sure I know where that is located. I changed my CRS to the 'expected law school enrollment' 2012, under My Account and then Profile. Sufficient?
If you guys were in my shoes and had 5 schools to apply to which would you choose. Of course this will change if I get some fee waivers in, but on the first I would like to hit submit a couple times regardless.

Maybe I should also mention that I have been out of school for a couple of years and I went to an unranked university.

Depends on where you wanna be/what you want to do. I would choose Yale, harvard, nyu, chicago, and one of MVP.
I got fee waivers with a 170, so I'm sure you'll get a ton of fee waivers with a 177.

Five Schools?
Harvard, Stanford (if you'd be interested in going there), Chicago, Columbia, NYU.
I would wait a month on Yale since it seems that applying early doesn't matter as much there as elsewhere.
I would also stress putting a lot of work into your PS and any essays. You've got an amazing opportunity with those numbers and you don't want to blow it with a bad essay.

umm.. I was thinking Washington University St. Louis will definitely be one. Do you guys know if there is any difference between applying on sept. 15 as opposed to sept. 1. Also, I heard it was important to apply to Virginia early. Those all seem like reaches with my gpa. According to LSN at least. But i don't know; I guess that's why i'm coming here for advice:) thank you.

you'll get into better schools than WUSTL (not that it's bad...you'll just have stronger options). you have a shot everywhere...just put together a good app.
sep 1 vs. sep 15 doesn't matter.

Well I was looking for a school I could maybe get a scholarship from also, before the scholarship money gets sucked dry. Maybe I am functioning off of some mistaken notions.dkt4 wrote:you'll get into better schools than WUSTL (not that it's bad...you'll just have stronger options). you have a shot everywhere...just put together a good app.

How about I throw this out there:
Virginia
Harvard
WUSTL
Texas
NYU

Stanford and Yale probably won't happen because your GPA is too low. At best, you will get WLed at SLS. Yale doesn't really dip below a 3.4. See here: http://www.law.yale.edu/admissions/profile.htm
Harvard will happen. Apply early, but don't expect to get a JR1 straight away. Probably around December or January, but I will be surprised if you don't get in because I know of two AA men at HLS with a 172/3.2 and 170/174 3.2. They both got in around February/March.
Columbia may be a little weird, but you have a strong chance there.
In throughout the rest of the T14. Expect $$$ to be thrown at you. AA male cycles are truly unpredictable so don't be surprised if you get WLed at a lower ranked school and get accepted by a significantly higher ranked school.
Put together a strong application and profit. Enjoy
ETA: Also, please, please apply to more than five schools. Apply throughout the T14. There is no need to apply anywhere beyond. Even if you don't want to attend a school that gives you a ton of money, you can use schollys as leverage to increase your award at other schools that you may consider. Don't deny yourself this opportunity if you decide H is not for you.

Yeah I wouldn't apply to WUSTL and Texas. Just blanket the T14 and you will have a great cycle

both of these statements are really true. fwiw, i got WL'd at UCLA and UVA but got really quick acceptances from S and H /shrug. being able to leverage scholly's is important, even if its from a school you're not really super interested in attending.GAIAtheCHEERLEADER wrote:AA male cycles are truly unpredictable so don't be surprised if you get WLed at a lower ranked school and get accepted by a significantly higher ranked school.

Seriously? An AA male with a 177 and a 3.2 and you are asking where to apply? Unless you screw something up or have something horrible on your record, you'll get in almost everywhere. HYS are not out.... Yale maybe, but an AA male with a 177 is incredibly rare, so who knows. Blanket the T14 and you will have tons of huge schollies. GL OP

I haven't been able to get out any apps yet. I have thrown away a couple DS and PS. If anyone is willing to look at my new ones please let me know.
Also, I got a fee waiver at U Chicago, NW, Vandy and UCLA. I will be submitting those Sunday or Monday along with a couple others. Any suggestions? I have the funds for about 3 more and then I will have to wait for another month and send the rest in the middle of October. Is this hurting my chances? Does anyone have a date in which ones chances start hurting because of the lateness of their application?

Sorry it wasnt too clear with where you are applying. It should just be the entire T-14.Angrygeopolitically wrote:I haven't been able to get out any apps yet. I have thrown away a couple DS and PS. If anyone is willing to look at my new ones please let me know.

Safeties at three schools are fine if you're nervous-- I'm thinking UCLA, Vandy, Texas.
That's it. 17 apps. I'm thinking you'll get ~7 full-rides. Have fun.
Apply by mid-October and you're ok. Its better if you don't get caught in the holiday shuffle (thanksgiving, christmas, new years).

So far in at NYU and Cornell.... Happy. But is it odd that I heard nothing from the other 15 schools I applied to. I applied to all the top-14, minus Georgetown and Yale, and a few safeties in early October.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
