Canadian to HLS

Post by FlyHigh » Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:34 pm

Information is pretty sparse for Canadians applying to T-14s. Here goes:

School: Major University in Canada
Program: Political Science

Rank: 1/400 - Also writing an honors thesis
GPA: 4.1/4.3

(what would LSDAS convert this to by the way?)

LSAT: Haven't taken yet, but extrapolating from practice scores, probably a 173 - 177

Summer work experience: Internship at an investment bank, brokerage firm, and at a Federal Government Ministry, as well as an RA for a law prof at the University of Toronto.

ECs: Debate, Model Parliament, Campus Journalism (3-4 year leadership positions in each organization)

Not sure where I stand in terms of Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Columbia.

And you won't be sure until you have an actual LSAT score. One's LSAT score is of paramount importance to US law schools, unlike Canada where one's GPA is more heavily weighted.

Actually get in the 173-177 range and your odds would be pretty good, but that's easier said than done.

I know I can score between 173 and 177.

So assuming a 170+ score....

With an LSAT above 174, I'd say you're likely in at HS. Y is a bit of a mystery, depending on how fabulous you are.

Work on crafting the best PS you possibly can, getting recommendations that claim you could cure cancer if you tried, and getting that LSAT as high as possible. Try to avoid the retake mentality.

How LSDAS will convert your GPA depends on how your school calculated that 4.1/4.3. Check out the GPA calculator on lawschoolpredictor.

There some, though not a lot, info on LSN on internationals applying to YHS with LSDAS GPAs. For the most part, your chances are similar to those of an American with similar stats.
