3.5/171 URM Mexican
Hey everyone,
I've been a long time lurker here on TLS and I'm so glad I've found the site. All the valuable information here has forced me to set my sights higher and aim for a t14 school rather than the low T1/T2 schools I was previously considering.
As the title states, I have approximately a 3.5 GPA and I scored a 171 on the June LSAT. I am URM and I have average to below average softs (good internships, some fairly interesting life experiences etc.) My dream school would be Stanford, but I plan on applying to the entire t14 minus Yale. Can you guys give me your thoughts on what my chances are at these schools. I have looked at LSN but I'd like to hear your opinions as well.
Thanks!

I'd apply to Yale too. URM is a very mysterious and powerful force.

I am the same. I applied in Jan., only got Duke. Got waitlisted at all the other T14's (edit: I didn't apply to HYS, but all the rest) except Berk, who rejected me. Got in off the Northwestern waitlist, but that was the only one.

Wow, 3.5/171/MA didn't even get you into Cornell? Did you feel any other part of your app was weak?Flanker1067 wrote:I am the same. I applied in Jan., only got Duke. To be fair, the late (January) applications probably adversely affected his chances.horrorbusiness wrote:Wow, 3.5/171/MA didn't even get you into Cornell? Wow thanks for the advice everyone. That is definitely disappointing, but hopefully applying earlier in the cycle will help me out

Shouldn't be discouraging. Late applications really, really wound you. If you apply in October with those stats and URM you are in a really good spot. Good odds on top 6 and a fair crack at HYS would be my thought.

I had almost the exact same numbers and same URM status, and I got into SLS down. WL at HLS. Fairly prestigious UG, but who knows how much that helped. Didn't apply to Penn, Mich or UVA. Be sure to apply to any of the name NYU scholarships that appeal to you. Feel free to PM me with any questions about my cycle!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Marley, did you apply early in the cycle and do you think that had a significant impact on your results?Marley wrote:I had almost the exact same numbers and same URM status, and I got into SLS down. I applied in late October. No idea if it affected my chances, but it certainly felt better getting acceptances early on. First acceptance was in late November, and by end of January I was into SLS, CLS, NYU, etc. I recommend it.JA2942 wrote:Thanks everyone for the replies!
