3.78(4.0)/163 - correct me if i'm wrong about chances
3.78 cumulative GPA (4.0 in major) from top 20 public university
163 LSAT with multiple takes (actually scored 163 twice)
-Econ major
-Honors College
-Decent Softs
Please let me know if I'm off on my perceived chances and if you have any comments.
Most of my estimations are based off of lawschoolnumbers more so than lawschoolpredictor
Reach Schools
UCLA=(<10%) this is my top choice and will do ED there
USC=(~10%) what the hell why not
WUSL=(~20%) probably a waitlist
Semi-Reach
Fordham=(~30%) like the NYC market, probably a waitlist, also thinking about applying to PT program and transfer in after first year
BU & BC=(~30%) think better chances at BU, BC might be closer to 20%
Emory =(~40%) from the south and really like Atlanta plus have a good program with GTech that I'm interested in
Match
UNC=(~60%) always liked the school but realize coming from out of state doesn't help
Cal-Davis=(~70%) seems like the best Cali school I can get into
UC-Boulder=(~70%) really like the area/quality of life and thinking about environmental law
Safety
Wake=(>90%) seems like they have an autoadmit with 163 and 3.5+
Florida=(>99.999%)
My preference would probably be 1)UCLA 2)Fordham 3)Emory 4)BU/BC 5)UNC/Boulder
And I know some of you will just say pick a region where I want to live/practice but I am really open to anything (except midwest although might make exception for WUSL) right now and just want to know what my options are.
Thanks and sorry for the long post

So you're okay with ending up in Southern California, New York, the South, Boston, North Carolina, Colorado, and Florida? Good for you on being flexible with location.
Well, okay then:
Super-Reach
UCLA
Reach
WUSTL
USC
BC
Slight Reach
BU
UC-Boulder
Match
UC-Davis
UNC
Emory
Safety
Wake
Florida

really swgirlfan you think I have a better shot at Emory than Boulder? I was definitely thinking the opposite, thanks for you input I appreciate it.
anyone else haven anything to contribute?
does anyone know if some of these schools look more at major GPA rather than overall? I think I heard Boulder does...

UCLA-out
WUSTL-out
USC-out
BC- maybe. Boston schools seem to love high GPAs so you might be able to sneak in here.
BU- ditto for above. You could get into both, get rej. at both, who knows?
Boulder-Accept.
UC-Davis-Accept.
UNC-Accept.
Emory-Accept.
Wake-Accept.
Florida-Accept.
If you're really not interested in retaking, just make sure you have great apps for BU,BC, and Boulder and you could end up with some cash to any of them. I know you don't want to hear it, but even with a modest increase you could a) get into better schools or b) get tons of money to any of these schools, save maybe UCLA. Unless someone else is financing your education, retaking will be well worth your time as you could save a ton of dough.

i'm pretty sure emory wasn't looking at many people under a 166, so you don't really have much of a shot there. nobody looks at major GPA.elong1988 wrote:really swgirlfan you think I have a better shot at Emory than Boulder? It's a guesstimation off of LSN and their medians. None of these schools will care more at major GPA---US News doesn't care about major GPAs. Good luck!elong1988 wrote:really swgirlfan you think I have a better shot at Emory than Boulder? I was definitely thinking the opposite, thanks for you input I appreciate it.

actually now that i look at LSN it seems like that was more the case in '09-'10. the number of good applicants there must've gone down because a couple of people with your numbers got in at emory last cycle.

LSN has him as an accept or waitlist, I think he will be fine there.steelersrule wrote:i'm pretty sure emory wasn't looking at many people under a 166, so you don't really have much of a shot there. nobody looks at major GPA.

thanks everyone for the replies!
minnbills- I totally agree with you that just a point or two increase would help dramatically with a lot of these schools, probably even $$$, but trust me when I say I'm not taking the lsat again, its kind of a long story haha
steelersrule-I was thinking the same thing as far as Emory goes (to be considered I at least needed a 165) but based on what I saw at LSN it has me a little encouraged that with a good PS a decent shot. I don't know if it has to do with their recent drop in ranking or what.
what do you guys think of Fordham? I guess it can probably be lumped in with BU/BC with is probably WL but I like the idea of doing their PT program for a year and then transferring into their FT program. Obviously the NYC market and Fordham connections within it are the most attractive things here.

Not a 3rd take? That 163 really screws you out of a lot of places. I jumped 7 points on my retake (and even that was scoring 3-4 points below my PT avg)

Fordham PT is pretty strict about really liking people who have substantive WE but it is worth a shot. It's a great city to pick up interesting part time work if you have qualifications in the creative industries.
BC likes GPA's and you aren't TOO far from their median. Look at GMU, they are good with money.

TCR. I was 164/3.85 and got waitlisted with one year of shitty WE. But then I retook in June and got a 168 and then got in. Granted I applied in December.bigkahuna2020 wrote:Fordham PT is pretty strict about really liking people who have substantive WE but it is worth a shot.
