Chances are good, apply everywhere. Every school is still in play except yale and standford. You should get one of CCN or MVP with money

Don't bother applying to Fordham or Dozo. Even if you don't get CCN, most other T14 schools will do you better for NYC than Fordham or Dozo.

Re: 169, 4.0, Macaulay Honors... chances?
I had same numbers last year. Got 2 of CCN, UVA, Duke w/ $, Cornell w/ $, Vandy and Texas w/ $$ and full rides to T20 and beyond.
WL at Michigan but I didn't send a "why" essay. Didn't apply to Penn. WL at Columbia, H and S.

Re: 169, 4.0, Macaulay Honors... chances?
CCN = Columbia, Chicago, NYU. These schools are very similar in prestige and employment prospects, and are better than every other school except for Harvard, Yale, and Stanford.Homer88 wrote:Thanks for your help...really appreciated. Stupid question, but since I'm new, does ccn stand for Columbia, Cornell, and nyu? Also, if i got free ride to Fordham or dozo, and no money from nyu or Columbia, what should I do? I had always thought I would go to dozo or Fordham, because I never thought I would get a 169...but obviously now I'm looking at Columbia and nyu with little hope of getting the money I would get at dozo and ford.
Also are the job prospects substantially better at nyu and Columbia to warrant paying full, if I could get free ride to dozo or ford?
Thanks again for your help!!
Yes, you should pay sticker at NYU or Columbia over a free ride to dozo or Fordham. The lower schools simply do not have the employment power that the top schools do. Also, it sounds like you want to work in NYC, and ALL of the top schools send lots of students to NYC, and ALL of them place better than Fordham or Dozo.
The better question is whether you should take a partial scholarship at a school like Duke or Cornell over sticker at Columbia or NYU. That's a very tough decision, although plenty of people have discussed it countless times on these forums.

In many/most people's opinion CCN is definitely worth sticker. I dont really see even ITE (In this economy) that is a bad choice.
If you wanted to save money, still dont take the money at a school like dozo or fordham with your stats. You will get decent money somewhere else in the t14 (top 14 ranked schools) maybe even at mvp (Michigan Virginia Penn). This is a way way better option than dozo.
Also if you want NYC you can get a job there from any t14, NYC is the biggest and easiest market to break into.

Unlikely, Cornell may give a good scholarship. that is not too far away. Penn may be even closer actually. I think CLS / NYU are attainable and it sounds like they would be the perfect situation though.Homer88 wrote:Thanks guys... I guess the only thing is that I also want to go to school in NYC for family reasons. I just wish there was something in between colum/nyu and forham... Like a top 10- 20 or something like that, where I would still get good money. It sucks that the gap between colum/nyu and ford and dozo is so large. Do you see any chance of getting money at colum or nyu if I get in?
Thanks!
Factors in no order:
1. QoL/ Perference
2. Career Prospects / Prestige
3. Less Debt
You may only have the numbers to get two out of three and I'd say that's pretty good. (note: 1 and 2 are very related)

Re: 169, 4.0, Macaulay Honors... chances?
Zero chance of money at Columbia. <10% chance at NYU, and if anything it will be small (less than $30k over 3 years). Unless you qualify for one of the scholarships that requires a separate application, and these are insanely competitive and you probably wouldn't get them anyway.Homer88 wrote:Thanks guys... Honestly if you have to be in NYC I would apply early to decision to either Columbia or NYU. This should make you a lock, especially at NYU (Columbia will still be difficult because your LSAT is a bit low for them).

Someone has to say it.
Retake, add five or six points to your LSAT, get a scholarship to Columbia, profit.

Honestly, Fordam doesn't give much money, but if ANYONE should get some it should be you (they are pretty holistic and I think CUNY Honors and a perfect GPA is a big deal). I would go early to Columbia or NYU, depending on which you like better. The debt will be bad, but the only school that will give you a full one is Cardozo, and you SHOULD NOT GO THERE (and I considered the school with a big schollie)
If you don't mind Philly, though (2 hour bus ride and all) UPenn might throw money at you.

this is really the right choice here, especially if you weren't fully prepared/left points on the table. You're already below median at Columbia and NYU, so I don't think they would really care if you took it againahduth wrote:Someone has to say it.

The kid scored way better than expected as it was. Chances are a retake wouldn't help.bigkahuna2020 wrote:For a bunch or law students and people who want to be, there is some horrible reading comprehension in this forum
Contrary to the popular belief on this forum, there are times when retaking would NOT help. This is probably one of them. Not EVERYONE with a 4.0 GPA can get a Hamilton by taking the LSAT enough times.

Re: 169, 4.0, Macaulay Honors... chances?
Having above a 4.0 won't really help you more than a 4.0. A majority of schools don't give out A+s at all, and it would be unfair to rank you more highly than someone who had all As at a school where that was the highest grade you could get.Homer88 wrote:Thanks everyone...and yes I do not think I would do better if I took the LSAT again...also, my gpa is actually a 4.0 right now, but I have 8 or 9 A+'s that have not been worked into my gpa (I checked once and I think my gpa would be somewhere around 4.1)...would this .1 help much at all in terms of money at nyu or colum? Also, Has anyone ever heard of almost free rides at ford?
Thanks!!
Granted, it's a great GPA either way.
Fordham is pretty stingy with scholarship. They only gave out a handful of scholarships larger than half tuition last year. Seriously, rule out Fordham.

I think you have a very good chance at NYU but it might be worth looking at other schools to see about scholarship. All of the T13 place into NYC.

Macaulay is the free tuition honors program at CUNY in New York.

Very few schools give merit based scholarships for any other reason than trying to win you. If they automatically have you, they don't need to give you money

Some do still give you scholarships. UMich game me one as an ED applicant. I'd email NYU and ask them their policy. For Columbia there isn't much chance though.Homer88 wrote:thanks jam, that makes sense.
