3.01 GPA/168 LSAT/White Male
Hi all! I recently got my lsat scores back for the june administration, and I'm trying to figure out how to narrow down my list of potential schools. As I said in the subject line, I have a 3.01 gpa from the university of georgia in economics (which I must say has progressed over time... had a 2.5 after my freshman year, and I still have a semester left at georgia), I made a 168 on the lsat, I'm a 21 year old white male, and I'm focusing on schools in the southeast (as far west as louisiana, as far north as tennessee or south carolina). What tier of schools would you think I should focus on, which schools might be a stretch, and what schools (if any) would be safety nets. Don't need a comprehensive list... just something to get me started. FYI, my "favorites" are ole miss, florida state, and south carolina.
thanks in advance!

That's a great LSAT. Florida State is okay but have you applied to Miami? Coastal gives out a lot of $$$ too.

I have considered Miami actually. Big price tag, but I think it could be worth it (?). I haven't heard much about Coastal..... I'm still in the dark about how much weight is applied to GPA (sort of troublesome considering mine isn't the best), so I honestly dont even know where to start applying haha.

Since you want the southeast, your best bet is probably staying with UGA. You'll get in-state tuition and scholarship $$.

Do you think I would be a competitive applicant at UGA? I checked LSN and it seems like someone with my GPA would have a tough time just getting admitted....

They accepted everyone with a 166 LSAT and up (and only two waitlists at 165)...you're golden there. Only question is how much scholarship $ they'll give youmurray18 wrote:Do you think I would be a competitive applicant at UGA? You should definitely apply to Bama, too. I think you're likely to get more money at Bama than Georgia, and UA is arguably a better school than UGA anyway.murray18 wrote:Do you think I would be a competitive applicant at UGA? Beautiful, I just found the chart you're looking at and it definitely looks promising. Thanks! Any ideas on what schools would be good safety nets?

And yes Bama is definitely on the list (my uncle played for Bear haha).
Anybody have an opinion on Mercer or Samford? Hopefully I won't find those to be my best options... but they seem to be good backups.

There really is no reason for "safety nets." Yes, the lower ranked schools you'd apply to as "safeties" may give you slightly larger scholarships, but they would come with stipulations that would make you likely to lose them; plus, their job prospects would be much worse. These schools are more regional than just the southeast. Go to UGA if you want to practice in Georgia, UofAlabama if you want Alabama and so on. You can also try Georgia State, UF and FSU...itll give you another year to decide where you want to live. The job prospects from all these schools are similar enough that it just comes down to geographical preference and cost. IMO, your best bet is UGA, especially if you have in-state tuition. Save your application $ and don't apply to a bunch of TTT.

UGA, Emory, Alabama, Wake Forest, UNC for South. Indiana, Illinois if not set on South. I second UGA or Bama though. You should be good there. Also see if Emory gives you anything.
