Depends, what does your friend think he/she will get on the retake?

probably decent.

Still, id recommend an october retake to be safe. You can ED at UVA if things don't change and if you improve you give yourself a shot at $$ and potentially even better schools.

Is your friend a resident or non-resident? If he's a resident, I think his chances will be very good, and if he's a non-resident, it will be tougher but if he applies really early on, like September, he might have a decent shot.

only UVA?
definitely the exception and not the rule but i have a stupid ass non-URM female friend who has those exact numbers. 3.97/165 - recently just got off the waitlist at penn and mich. no significant softs i know about.
blanket and pray to come off waitlists could be a play if not limited to UVA.

probably in at UVA. A retake is by far the best thing your "friend" could do.

Re: 3.95/165
Turns out I made a mistake about my friend's GPA. He told me he has a 3.91 and it hasn't been converted to LSDAS yet so it may go up/down .01.
I think he has 2 options and I was wondering if you guys could tell me which is better
1. Apply to UVA ED on September 1. If wait listed, study and take the December LSAT
2. Take the October LSAT. Apply to UVA ED immediately after receiving new score.
Let's say he doesn't raise his score on an October retake, does he have a much lower chance getting into UVA by applying ED after the October LSAT instead of applying on September 1?
