3.69/170 - looking to ED

Post by kramarch » Sun Jun 12, 2011 3:16 pm

3.69 UGPA
170 LSAT

Looking to ED somewhere early in the fall 2011 cycle. What are my options? I assume Columbia and Chicago are definitely out. I'm very interested in NYU and Penn -- though I assume my chances are poorer at the former. So how do I look at Penn overall? I'm also considering Mich, UVA, Duke, etc.

Overall I'm pretty adamant on ED'ing.

How much do my chances change if I had a 171 LSAT?

Other resume info:
-Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Philosophy
-Undergrad softs such as newspaper editor, radio station disc jockey, dean's list, research grants, etc.
-Strong recs
-Personal statement on law and philosophy

Don't bother unless you are confident you can raise your score to at least a 173/4.

One point is not going to make a difference. You would need to score a 174+ for it to make sense to take the LSAT again. EDIT: also use lawschoolpredictor.com it's fairly accurate

0L disclosure

I don't see how having a 172 instead of a 170 wouldn't make a large difference given that it would put you at or above the medians for all of ccn. being around both medians as you would be with that gpa and a 172 would make you an attractive ed candidate I would think. With a 170 you are not. (this is with regards to ccn, and feel free to correct my 0L ways)

most schools average the lsat score. so having a 172 with the 170 would really just be a 171. also a OL so i don't know what i'm talking about. but i had a 5 point difference. and if schools used the high i think i would have had a very different cycle. could be wrong though.

Yeah I see what you are saying. But, I was assuming that almost no schools actually average lsat like they say they do, and I think that is pretty much the consensus here.

you had a 172 and got all of ccn - what makes you think they didn't take the high? a 169.5 wouldn't have gotten ccn. unless 172 is your averaged score? then I could see you maybe being confused about H. Anyway, I'm confident that many of the t14 did not average for me (though think NYU may have).

OP: I honestly think there is a big difference between 170 and 172/171... but you would have to be very confident/lucky to make retaking your 170 worth it. Unfortunately, your GPA is what will hold back your app. Not sure where you should ed - maybe Mich? but then I think you'd have to start in the summer. Good luck!

b/c with a 170 law school predictor has me at about a 50% consider ccn? and i think i had a relatively strong application? my gpa made up for my lsat. that's why. again i admitted that that may not be the case. but i don't think you can assume ccn used my 172.
