3.9 GPA, 167 LSAT

Post by Fleurdelis6111 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 6:24 pm

Hey, what does anyone think my chances are with a 3.9 / 167 at:

Stanford,
Columbia,
Chicago,
NYU,
Berkeley,
Northwestern,
Georgetown,
George Washington,
Minnesota, and
Fordham?

No URM, okay PS, VP of the pre-law club at my state university 2010-2011, and in the National Tournament for the American Collegiate Moot Court Association in 2010-2011. Thank you! :)

You should be in at George Washington, Minnesota, and Fordham.

Maybe at Berkeley and Northwestern.

ETA: you should think about adding Cornell to that list

Its what a solid faction of TLS will say if you have a LSAT score below a 170.

No, TLS will tell you to retake if OP doesn't have a school worth going to, obviously OP can still get into a good school with that GPA including some of the bottom T14 and T20s with serious $$$.

You might want to look at MVP with those numbers. An ED at Mich, or especially UVA very early in the cycle, could give you a good shot at a T-14 acceptance. Might even get a bit of $ at Mich (even if you are accepted ED).

If there's any chance you can raise your score (and there probably is), you should retake. That 3.9 is gold. You could up the value of your career prospects by tens of thousands of dollars with just a few more points on the LSAT.

If you're not up for that, take MVPB with a little money I guess.

hola numbers twin. i'm going to UVa this fall, got waitlisted at Penn, rejected at Michigan, waitlisted at Chi (soft rejection i think, i withdrew) and i got a full ride scholarship at UMN plus living stipend, but i am a resident. i suggest applying to Michigan, Penn, and Virginia as well. many people with the same #s as us have been accepted to one of those, either ED, RD, or off the waitlist ED/RD. those will probably be your top realistic contenders. good luck!

ETA: also got accepted to Georgetown (and Cornell FTR) but i didn't apply to any other schools on your list

also, i applied EARLY (like september, and that helped i think)

Honestly i tell anyone with a 3.9 to retake. The OP is obviously smart, hitting 170 will bring worthwhile benefits, and if they can hit 173 they have a good shot at HYS, are in at CCN and are looking at $$$ elsewhere. Now, if youre someone who will be miserable studying for the LSAT and taking it again, then maybe be happy with the good options available. But I tend to think that if you'ved already worked your ass off to get a 3.9, the additional effort required to retake could very well be worth it. Obviously tehre are good options available, but even better options are possible.

Douchey i guess, but I wish someone would have been douchey to me when I was slacking my way through UG.

The retake advice is pretty credited if there is room for improvement. Look around the boards for advice on studying for the LSAT and if you didn't go all out on the studying like is recommended, retaking can potentially open up a ton of doors and $$$$ to you.

I had the same stats and I got in at NU and Michigan and WL at Duke and UVA. No $ anywhere in the T14. To this day, I regret not retaking. Well, somewhat.

Numbers twin here. Got a couple T14s and $$$ at Vandy/GW. If you don't mind paying sticker, you have a great shot at MPVD w/ ED. Apply early w/ a solid application and you should snag at least one of DCG and get $$$ at Texas/Vandy/UCLA on down.

Thx everyone. Would something like a 169 or 170 in October really be that much of a change? Also, I may have a 4.0 after being a senior; the 3.9 is just if I make any "B"s from here on. IDK if that's a big deal, but I could be wrong?

There were 4.0 169 and 4.0 170 acceptances at HLS this year, no non URM got in with a 167. If you think that you can improve by at least 2 points, definitely retake.

I had similar stats (168, 4.0) and was waitlisted at Stanford, Michigan, Penn, Virginia, and Duke with no luck so far. I'm happy with my current school (just outside T14 with lots of money), but I know that with 2 more points on the LSAT I could have turned at least one of my WL into an acceptance. If I were you, I would retake in October and apply early. A few points on the LSAT and you could have different results from me.

Good luck!

I forgot to mention how important this is. You want to get in your apps as early as you can because you don't want to be stuck in a situation where the schools have an idea of what their class looks like and start median protecting their LSAT score.

People who get in 1ith 167,168,169 to HYSCCNPBM tend to have above average softs and work experience, like TFA, Peace Corps, etc. HYSCCN are probably all out without 169+ and then still very tough if you are straight out of undergrad, if you have a very good PS and recs then you have a very good change to get in at sticker at one of PMVDG--Cornell is 50/50 as they seem to now have a 168 requirment and Duke loves 170....Northwestern ED would be a good shot if you have 2 years of work experience.

Bingo. You have a decent shot at Cornell, Georgetown, and Vandy RD as well (just apply ASAP!)

4.0/170 you have a chance at HS or Chicago with good money (Columbia/NYU will still probably not give you a ton). 4.0/167 you are looking at MVP with $ or CG with $$ (I'm pulling these numbers out of the air, use hourumd to have an idea - schollys are always a crapshoot).

Basically, it's a big deal. Each point is worth thousands of dollars.
