Texas and Duke are probably out, but if you want UVA, EDing as soon as apps open might do the job. Also, you're probably in at all of the schools that you listed as realistic shots.

Texas, Duke, Vandy are WL/out. UVA in with ED, otherwise out. Probably in everywhere else.

ED to UVA the first day of admissions and your cycle is over and in at a top school in a week....apply later or RD you are at the mercy of that low GPA--

UVA dinged me pretty quickly as an RD applicant with the same numbers.

UVA appear substantially more willing to accept splitters if they apply ED. As long as OP doesn't mind paying sticker, they have a good chance at acceptance within a couple of days and their cycle being over.

ED to UVA is as close to a lock as a splitter can get. ED he has a great chance. I knew that, just didn't like CVille

You should probably apply to Gtown, Mich, Cornell, and Penn too.

This. Apply to the entire bottom T14 and ED to your favorite MVP if you want to increase your chances.

Seems like Texas has a firm ~3.5 GPA line now, probably completely out there

just to play devil's advocate, UVa waitlisted some 170/3.4 EDers this cycle. i don't think it's a lock but it does substantially increase your chances, and also it seems that UVa has only taken reverse/semi reverse splitters off their WL so far this year (at least by evidence on TLS) so there are probably more regular splitters vying for those splitter spots

170 and 171 is a big difference when it comes to UVA ED. 171 is the 75th percentile. If he applies in Sept/Oct he's pretty much a lock.

I agree with this assessment.

Also, if he's content with UVa at sticker, he can apply on day one and probably have an answer within a few days. If he gets WL, then there's still plenty of time to write essays and blanket the other schools.

That saves a lot of time in completing application forms and probably a chunk of change from application fees at schools where he doesn't have a waiver.

Agreed, looks like a $12 cycle for this guy if he is happy with UVA.

Would you say that since UVA is the most splitter friendly of those 3, all other things being equal, it would be the most logical to ED to if you really wanted T14?

provided you'd be happy at UVA, it's a pretty good idea to ED there. you'll get a quick decision, and have a chance to ED somewhere else if you get waitlisted.

Given that you ED early, UVA is the most splitter friendly out of all three.

Will these four all give him sticker price, though? His GPA is too low for even Cornell.

Does Cornell have a "GPA floor"? It seems from the statistics that a 3.2x is too low for Cornell, but maybe I'm wrong.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
