3.76/161 URM Interested in JD/MPP or MPA
I attend a Tier 3 University and have a GPA of 3.76 and 161 LSAT. I would love to do a joint JD/MPP or MPA program. I have a cruddy part-time job at the luxurious Taco Bell and my softs are, so-so. I interned for a congressman, participate in my school's honors program, hope to be inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and I will attend McGill University this summer for a session and take a class in Econometrics and an International Relations course, and at my school, I am the VP of our Black Student Union. I am a double major, Political Science and Economics. The school that I really would like to attend is Washington and Lee University School of Law. For an MPP, my favorite schools are UVA, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, and Brandeis.
My GRE Scores were:
620 V
690 Q
4 Writing (Yeah, I sucked)
Here is my composite list of schools:
Public Policy Schools without Law Schools
Brown
Tufts
Brandeis
Johns Hopkins
*Virginia
Carnegie Mellon
Virginia Tech
Princeton
*University of Virginia has a law school, but its public policy program is unranked.
Law Schools without Public Policy Schools
Washington and Lee
Notre Dame
Wake Forest
Northwestern
Case Western Reserve
*Washington University in Saint Louis
Boston University
Boston College
Emory
Fordham
University of California (Hastings)
Cincinnati
Temple
*WUSTL doesn’t have an MPA/MPP Program, but has an A.M. in Political Economy and Public Policy.
*Schools in BOLD are schools that I am interested in, and would want to apply to.
Do any of you have experience in JD/MPP programs, taking the dual degree at two different schools?

University of Michigan has a very good MPA program (though if I remember correctly WE is require) and LS.
You should set your sights a bit higher

Thanks! Michigan is ultimately my dream school and I've always been a wolverine fan, but if I were excepted into a lower ranked school, I just feel that I would have a better chance for a scholarship and not have to worry about taking out large amounts in loans.dr123 wrote: You should set your sights a bit higher

Virginia lets you do a joint MPA at several other schools including Princeton. You have to get admitted to both programs separately. More info: http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/academ ... m#external

I looked into the JD/MPP program at USC, and I really have an interest, but because of my test scores, I'm afraid that If I'm accepted, there would be a money problem, with maybe not enough scholarships available.Horchata wrote:USC has a program like this and is in your GPA/LSAT range
I am considering UVA because of their JD/MPA wih Princeton. I plan to retake both my LSAT and GRE. My last practice test scored 169. Hopefully, I can hit that, and get into a T14 with a JD/MPP Program.Corwin wrote:Virginia lets you do a joint MPA at several other schools including Princeton. You'll get a strong AA bump (particularly if you're a guy), so you should set your sights higher.
Check out Michigan, Georgetown, and Duke.
