3.87 / 172 - University of Chicago or Northwestern
White male. Triple major with good softs. What are my odds at the top two Illinois schools?

Are you sure those are the only schools you want to apply to? I think you have a shot at H and Y as well.

In at both, but I'd throw something at HYS to see if they stick. If you get into both it depends on how much money NU gives you.

See my cycle in my profile (3.88/172). I got in both this year with a full scholarship at NU and $60k at Chicago (hoping they are game to negotiating that, though).UWMadison2020 wrote:White male. Triple major with good softs. What are my odds at the top two Illinois schools?
I didn't crack the holy trinity, though. Now that Harvard has juiced their median GPA, I actually haven't found any non-minority applicant on LawSchoolNumbers.com with less than a 173 and less than a 3.89 (coincidentally, haha, their new median...) who got in there. Stanford is probably also possible with your numbers, but they just really, really didn't like my app for some reason. I didn't apply to Yale.
Edited because I can't type simple things after 1 am apparently. Guess I'll have to file my biglaw dreams away with my hoop dreams.

I've considered Harvard and Yale, but because of family and relationship situations (GF going to Northwestern Medical School) Chicago has been the most appealing.

Apply very early, but don't ED, because you'll get in at both and they'll give you money (but not if you ED). HYS are longshots, but you might have more luck with Stanford if you apply early. I'd say go for UChicago, but see how much they both give you first.

You'll get into both (just remember to apply early or you may get screwed like those that applied to UChicago with December LSATs this cycle), but be sure to blanket the T14. You'll want to use schollie offers from other schools to up your financial aid at UChicago / Northwestern (though you're in the running for a full ride at the latter)

Second, Third, and Fourth to all the "apply early" advice -- Chicago didn't admit anyone who went complete after December this year, at least not on LSN or TLS... which probably means no one. Lots of Hamilton recips and HYS admits with Chicago waitlists because they applied in the final month. So, yeah, write and polish your essay now, ask your recommenders for letters this spring/summer, and be ready to get her in before Halloween next cycle. Good luck!

Apply everywhere because you will get a lot of waivers and it will help you to negotiate a better deals at the Chicago schools.

Apply EARLY. I dont know if anyone that went complete in Jan got into Chicago, including some HYS acceptees.bhan87 wrote:You'll get into both (just remember to apply early or you may get screwed like those that applied to UChicago with December LSATs this cycle), but be sure to blanket the T14. I knew some people who got in Chi after Dec LSAT. But yeah OP, TCR is to apply early. Especially if/since you are interested in $$.
Aaaand unless you killed someone, you'll get into both.

I had very similar numbers and was waitlisted at Chicago and admitted to Northwestern. I applied in early November.
Good luck!

It would be worthwhile to apply to other T14 schools to use either their acceptances (if HYS) or their scholarship offers (if another T14) as leverage to get money from UChi or NU.UWMadison2020 wrote:I've considered Harvard and Yale, but because of family and relationship situations (GF going to Northwestern Medical School) Chicago has been the most appealing.

Same except I didn't apply to NU. 173 / 3.76. Withdrew from Chicago... a couple weeks after the waitlist when I got around to it.lynnford wrote:I had very similar numbers and was waitlisted at Chicago and admitted to Northwestern. I applied in early November.

NU should pay good money for your stats though, I'd think.
