171, 3.9
As a result of applying late I had an awful cycle....rejected at Berk and UChi, WL at UVA, and a little over half tuition at a local school ranked in the low 50's. Should I expect more? Would it be best to sit out a year and reapply next cycle?

Definitely reapply and I'd say even consider retaking. If you scored a 171 once I'd say with work its very possible for you to hit 173-4+, at which point enjoy HYS becomes the answer. But even with your current stats if you apply early youll be in the T14.

As your numbers twin, I would urge you to reapply early next cycle. You'll probably get some money at the lower T14. Although Berkeley will still reject you lol.

Definitely reapply. Your numbers put you above the 75th percentile for both LSAT and GPA from Michigan on down. Pad that resume ( don't have a gap) and get your fresh applications in early this fall. You have a great chance of admission at the lower top 14s and a pretty good chance to get at least one of the Top 6 if you play your cards right.
Don't settle.
Don't settle.

Meh, I'm not sure a retake is worth it because anecdotal evidence suggest HYS look down on retakers. OP also has good enough stats for YS if he had other things going on. But OP you should be in everywhere from 7 on down with a solid application and you should be able to get into at least one CCN. Definitely reapply.splitmuch wrote:Definitely reapply and I'd say even consider retaking. Retake could be worth it for money at non-HYS schools and worth it for the possibility of HYS.Patriot1208 wrote:Meh, I'm not sure a retake is worth it because anecdotal evidence suggest HYS look down on retakers. Reapply and take the time to polish those applications, even if you applied on the very last day those seem like pretty poor results with your numbers. Spread your apps a little wider for some scholarship leverage too.

I think the money argument is a little more convincing. But OP would need to be averaging well above 171 to justify a retake.bk187 wrote:Retake could be worth it for money at non-HYS schools and worth it for the possibility of HYS.Patriot1208 wrote:Meh, I'm not sure a retake is worth it because anecdotal evidence suggest HYS look down on retakers. Agreed. I think a mid 170's average should make it worth it.Patriot1208 wrote:I think the money argument is a little more convincing. But OP would need to be averaging well above 171 to justify a retake.

DON'T settle! I think your cycle underperformed very hard. I definitely agree you should consider retaking and shoot for HYS next cycle. If not, I wouldn't settle for anything less than T14 with $$$ with your great numbers

I should clarify that I'm actually a 165/ 171 and I sent an addendum to all schools...

Just gonna say, many with higher LSATs got WL at UVA (and Mich). There are no guarentees though applying earlier may help. Write the Why UVA, etc. If you know where you want to go ED. Good luck.

And definitely reapply dude. Paying for a second-tier law school with a 171 is something you will regret forever.

Re: 171, 3.9
Actually evidence seems to suggest that H and S at least don't look too badly upon retakers. They'll factor it in of course, but the highest number is still heavily weighted. Shooting for a 173+ on retake is a great option for OPPatriot1208 wrote:Meh, I'm not sure a retake is worth it because anecdotal evidence suggest HYS look down on retakers. Re: 171, 3.9
I think you applied to a too narrow range of schools. Let's go through each of your schools.Justin.S wrote:As a result of applying late I had an awful cycle....rejected at Berk and UChi, WL at UVA, and a little over half tuition at a local school ranked in the low 50's. Rejected Berkeley: As are plenty of people who get into Harvard and nearly everyone who applies after December
Rejected UChi: It seems, this year, almost no one got in who applied after January 1 (though I'm surprised they didn't WL you like they did me)
WL UVA: Are you from Virginia? Are you surprised?
If you had applied to NYU, Penn, Michigan, Duke, and NU, you may well have had better luck.
