I hate the 18 year old me!!!
At 18 i decided to start my undergrad and f'up big time
At 21 i decided to go back to school and become serious at a different undergrad and got a really good gpa over a 3.0, well i guess not perfect but 3.28 is o.k.
i hate the lsac though for averaging both g.p.a's and giving me a nice big 2.71
i received a 147 on my lsat in october and by my mothers pushing applied to some schools.
after reading and reading diff. threads i have decided to retake the lsat if worse comes to worse.
now at 25 i just really want to go back in time and hit the 18 year old me in the face
uhhh
oh and hit the 24 year old in the face for not practicing more for the lsat in october

3.28 is actually already pretty low. You'd need a really really high LSAT score to counterbalance that to get in a great school. Same thing with your actual LSAC GPA. Consequently, don't feel too bad.

Well luckily for 25 year old you, you can study really hard and retake the LSAT and it will be like the 147 never happened.

yeah 3.28 isn't so hot but its better than 2.71 LOL also i am not applying to schools like harvard, yale, etc..
Do you think, or anyone who reads this, that they will actually look at my "graduated institution" transcript and see that i only have three "bad grades" and the rest are above "b's".
I know i def. need to retake lsat but i dont know im getting discouraged.

You should move on and not blame your situation on "the 18 year old you."
I believe the best thing you can do is study hard for the LSAT and try to redeem your past through a good score.

Yes people write GPA addendums if their GPA has an upward trend towards the more recent part of your education (i.e. you overcame something and your GPA is lower than reflected by your abilities) while this can help, it's not by a ton and would pull more weight if you had a killer LSAT score.legalpitbull wrote:Do you think, or anyone who reads this, that they will actually look at my "graduated institution" transcript and see that i only have three "bad grades" and the rest are above "b's".

Don't worry about the GPA, it is not uncommon to mess up freshman year.
What is your major? Do you have time to study for the lsat if you were to retake? If you don't go to law school do you have an alternate career path? What tier law schools are you targeting?

Well I graduated with a Corporate Communications Major, for some reason my school grants B.S degrees for this major, and no it doesn't stand for bull sh** degree, although thats what we all say it is .skippy1 wrote:Don't worry about the GPA, it is not uncommon to mess up freshman year.

I applied to some tier 3 and tier 4 schools because I know for a fact I will not be accepted into anything higher, if I get accepted anywhere at all.
If I do not get accepted anywhere at all for this fall, I will take the lsat in october and if it comes back just as bad, ill try one more time next feb.
My backup plan is to go to grad school.

The temptation was too much, and since you took it in stride I'll give some real advice, for whatever it's worth. Nothing you can do about your GPA - it is what it is. Understand that it is going to limit a lot of the schools you can attend. Even a 180 won't make up for it for some schools. Accept this and decide how much you really want to go to law school. If this is truly what you want to do, then study your ass off and rock the LSAT. You understand that a 147/2.7 is not going to get you into any law school that you should ever consider going to, so that is good. I can't really tell you where the cutoff is for when it is worth it to go to law school, because it is kind of a personal thing, but don't even worry about that until you know what schools you will have the option to attend. Unfortunately, you probably won't know for sure until your cycle is over, because it is pretty difficult to predict how someone with a high LSAT/low GPA will fair in admissions.legalpitbull wrote:traehekat wrote:You should really listen to the 28 year old you who is telling you not to go to law school.

Well my personal cutoff is 27. I figure that if I am not in any reputable law school by the fall of 2012, then I will not be going to law school. As it is at 25 I feel like a loser for not having any real career.traehekat wrote:The temptation was too much, and since you took it in stride I'll give some real advice, for whatever it's worth. I understand your temptation in poking fun at me and its all good. I am confident that those numbers do not reflect me as a person LOL
I come to this board and vent because when I talk to my friends who are not in the law field they say to me "well any law school is better than no law school". I try to explain that, that is not true but they do not believe me
