3.0/144

Post by bsmash » Fri Mar 25, 2011 2:39 pm

Hey everyone. I have applied to Barry, Nova Southeastern, and, St Thomas (miami). I know my Lsat score is fairly awful. If there is no chance of me getting into one of these schools this year I plan to retake the test. That said, any chance of me getting in anywhere? I have seen a mix of wait listed rejected and accepted on different sites.

Thanks for your time

The odds are against you based upon those schools' past averages. Are you sure you want to go to law school?

I do, truth be told me LSAT score shocked me. During my prep course I was scoring in the low 150s so i'm thinking the best option may be for me to retake the test.

Refreshing to see someone get to "retake" on their own before everyone else chimes in.

Retaking is definitely your best option. You need at least ten points to have a decent shot at a T4. Even then, being restricted to a T4 school is not good, especially if you're financing your education.

What kind of score do you think I would need to get out of the T4 range... 160?

If you do retake, make sure you get the power score bibles and start reviewing why EVERY wrong answer is wrong. I did that and jumped 5 points into the 160s on practice tests

I have a 3.4 cumulative undergrad score and got a 142. I'm definitely considering retaking it either June or October for the 2012 cycle. I'm not sure what's the best option (of either months) to take it.

Thanks.

I would definitely recommend retake, and definitely recommend October. June is soon. Prep the WHOLE summer, take a course, invest in breaking 160. You'll save yourself thousands and thousands of dollars in scholarships.

Okay, thanks. I have the Powerscore books on hand as well as some practice tests. Is there anything else I should consider for studying?

Thanks again.

I'm a fan of courses(good ones) because they give you a schedule and pace to adhere to, plus some of the teachers are really good. Although it can be done on your own. The one reservation I have is your low first try. Are you really sure you can make a huge leap on your own? It might be worth it to spend the 1G on a class. If you excel, you'll make it back in scholarship money and/or a better school.

I did actually take an LSAT course twice (not a Kaplan or Princeton one) and it was face to face. I believe I got the low score due to the fact I could not sleep the night before because of nerves. Are Kaplan or Princeton classes recommended? Thanks.

Retake or don't go.

But if you do end up choosing between Nova or Barry, I suggest this thread.

Study your ass off with powerscore. I mean seriously devote a large portion of your week (20+) hours simply working through the bibles. Extra time on the weekend for full length timed practice tests. Check out http://lsatblog.blogspot.com/ for scheduled studying, if that's something your interested in. I raised my PT test score 19 pts in 5 mo. hardly slept b4 the test and still scored well enough to get into T1 schools. Good luck.

Definitely study, study, study, for the LSAT and then study a bit more. I think you should do this even if you snag an acceptance or two this round. Good luck!

Retake.

I had the same GPA and an LSAT in the mid 160s. With that I was able to secure scholarships in the T2 and get into schools in the lower T1.

Powerscore FTW.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
