3.7+/177
Hi, I'm currently a Junior majoring in international economics and planning on applying in the fall semester.
I am really concerned because my GPA is only a little over 3.7 at the moment (even though I am sure my GPA will go up at least a little bit after this semester, I don't think I will be able to get 3.8+ after my junior year).
I am proficient in 3 additional languages in addition to English: Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. I also have internship experience with Non-profit organizations and at the House of Representatives.
Would it help if I retake my LSAT this June? My dream is to get into any one of HYS.
Thanks for your help!

Your GPA is a bit low for HYS, but you should be good for CCN (especially Columbia / NYU). If you can get it closer to a 3.8 Harvard might bite and you would be in contention for a Hamilton at CLSmystic38 wrote:Hi, I'm currently a Junior majoring in international economics and planning on applying in the fall semester.

Re: 3.7+/177
Why would you retake? Most people who score above a 175 and retake end up getting lower scores. Focus on getting your GPA up. 3.8 and 177+ should make you an admit for Harvard. Stanford and Yale are always a toss up. Then again, if you're dumb enough to ask if you should retake a 177, you'll probably fuck up your good chances at HLS anyways.mystic38 wrote:Hi, I'm currently a Junior majoring in international economics and planning on applying in the fall semester.

Thanks for your advice!
I guess I won't have to retake LSAT.
If I apply early next fall (as in September or October), would law school still ask for my GPA after the fall semester is over?

Depends. You might get admitted before the end of fall semester (ex: Harvard often accepts the first batch of applicants late November early December)

As a pretty severe reverse splitter, OP should ED to UVA if he wants t14

Wait. Does that mean I have no chance of any T14 unless I apply ED to UVA?

the only way for anyone to get into the T14 is to retake and ED to UVA.mystic38 wrote:Wait. Does that mean I have no chance of any T14 unless I apply ED to UVA?

Unlike many of you, I am not very knowledgeable about the law school application process yet (for example, I am not sure what it exactly means to have a "severe reverse splitter"), and that's why I wanted to seek any advice.
I'm assuming that I have a solid chance at all T14 except HYS based on very helpful comments I have received so far, correct?
Thanks

They're messing with you. EDing to UVA is a TLS inside joke. You should get into everything besides HYS, and you have a decent shot at those three as well, since you seem to have pretty good softs.

Lurk more. My first post, TLS handed me my ass as well. I went back and read almost all the T100 descriptions and stickies, studied up the USN stats and then came back when I could participate.mystic38 wrote:Unlike many of you, I am not very knowledgeable about the law school application process yet (for example, I am not sure what it exactly means to have a "severe reverse splitter"), and that's why I wanted to seek any advice.

Flame. No school in North America puts pluses and minuses in your GPA. That's what the second decimal place is for.
