What are my chances: GPA: 2.7 LSAT: 170
The two ideal schools I am looking at are Northeastern (Boston) or University of Texas. Do I have a shot at either?
I have really good S.O.F.T.S. but I know those only help so much.
Thanks!

softs don't help. I'm a 2.5/170. I'll let you know how my Northeastern app goes. UT is out of the question. I would recommend WUSTL, UIUC, W&L, UMinn, and GW as starters for your cycle. if you have WE, then NU Is a possibility. LSAT is a little low for them though.

Why the hell do you want Northeastern? With your numbers, you have a decent shot at BU or BC, both of which offer significantly better prospects for Boston (which is pretty much the only market Northeastern will give you a shot at)

NU ED with WE is about the only chance you have for the t13.

Add IUB if OP doesn't mind being in Indiana.FuManChusco wrote:I would recommend WUSTL, UIUC, W&L, UMinn, and GW as starters for your cycle. if you have WE, then NU Is a possibility. LSAT is a little low for them though.

Let's not kid ourselves here, Georgetown might have tainted the T14, but TTTexas absolutely killed the T14.Miracle wrote:Isn't it T-14?dpk711 wrote:NU ED with WE is about the only chance you have for the t13.

I'm going to go a bit against the grain here and suggest that you apply all over, including some T14s and some lower ranked schools. With that LSAT and such a significant split, you're much harder to predict, but I would say that odds are good that you can either crack the T14 or convince somebody to give you lots of money in scholarships without stipulations. At that point, you can try and leverage offers and evaluate your options, but there is no reason to not apply all over (at least to non-TTTs) in the initial stage.

ehh, that gpa isn't cracking the t14 with a 170. it just isn't. as said, NU ED maybe. a huge maybe. schools have gpa floors. it'd be a waste of money to just liberally apply without doing some research.prezidentv8 wrote:I'm going to go a bit against the grain here and suggest that you apply all over, including some T14s and some lower ranked schools. You never know, and there's always plenty of fee waivers going around.FuManChusco wrote:ehh, that gpa isn't cracking the t14 with a 170. it just isn't. as said, NU ED maybe. a huge maybe. schools have gpa floors. it'd be a waste of money to just liberally apply without doing some research.prezidentv8 wrote:I'm going to go a bit against the grain here and suggest that you apply all over, including some T14s and some lower ranked schools. even with a 180, the only T-14 school which OP has more than a negligible chance at is NU ED w/ WE, not even Georgetown touches sub-3.0 GPAs

Re: What are my chances: GPA: 2.7 LSAT: 170
most of these people had a GPA of near the 3.0 mark (like 2.94, not 2.7), further a lot of these people are either URM or Part-Time applicants...Miracle wrote:Now, thats not true...G-town has accepted people with sub 3.0 GPAdpk711 wrote:even with a 180, the only T-14 school which OP has more than a negligible chance at is NU ED w/ WE, not even Georgetown touches sub-3.0 GPAs

Re: What are my chances: GPA: 2.7 LSAT: 170
That could be true. There is a difference between 2.7 and 2.9 though like you stated. I got in G-tow with sub 3.0 gpa, and I wasn't a part time applicant, but my fall grades did put me slightly over 3.0 mark-still under 3.1dpk711 wrote:most of these people had a GPA of near the 3.0 mark (like 2.94, not 2.7), further a lot of these people are either URM or Part-Time applicants...Miracle wrote:Now, thats not true...G-town has accepted people with sub 3.0 GPAdpk711 wrote:even with a 180, the only T-14 school which OP has more than a negligible chance at is NU ED w/ WE, not even Georgetown touches sub-3.0 GPAs
