2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
2.7 Quite the disparity I am aware...comes from being a total bum my first two years of college (stupid choice)
170-on LSAT
I have decent resume, I am current a Legal Assistant at a Law Firm (Have been for a year now) Played competitive sports in college, member of multiple orgs on campus, and I have some very good references...
Question being...do I have a semblance of a shot to get into a school like Boston College, Unv of Chicago, Northeastern Unv or Unv of Cinci ?

I'll be the first of many to say you should apply early to Northwestern and enjoy Chicago

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but softs mean next to nothing, unless you're a disabled Olympic gold medalist or as good as.nomad88 wrote:2.7 Quite the disparity I am aware...comes from being a total bum my first two years of college (stupid choice)

Chicago is out and BC is a pretty big stretch, even with your LSAT.

Not a shot a Chicago. Probably the same with the rest of the T14.
You have a shot everywhere else in the T1. Lawschoolpredictor.com goes crazy with extreme splitters like you. After the first 18 schools (all <5% chance) the numbers jump all over the place.
IMHO, with that score you should take a shot at a couple T14 schools and spread the T1/T2 spectrum.

I'll agree Chicago is pretty much out. Your chances at BC are also slim, though according to LSP you might have a slightly better (though still small) chance at BU.
A few extra points on your LSAT could do you a world of good though... do you have any interest in retaking? How do your practice scores compare to your test day 170?
as someone who retook a 170 and improved by 6 points, which has dramatically altered my choice of schools, I say it can (and should!) be done!

it'll be tough, you have small shots at NU or UVA ED. But, those are the only top schools you have shots at with ED.

Re: 2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
Seems like UVA might be out. Based on LSN this cycle, they have yet to go below 3.0. I'd say NU and Gtown are the only T14 possibilities, but OP shouldn't have to go lower than WUSTL or Illinois (Both likely $$) provided he's content with the midwest. If he wants other markets, things are pretty dicey based on some of the 3.0 GPA floors in the T30.Patriot1208 wrote:it'll be tough, you have small shots at NU or UVA ED. 2.x GPA + 170 LSAT + 1 year WE = ED to Northwestern the first day they take apps.

Re: 2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
it seems a 172 and 2 years of WE are the magic numbers now. still good advice if you want a shot though. if not WUSTL and UIUC are good options. Chicago is virtually impossible and BC seems extremely unlikely.vanwinkle wrote:2.x GPA + 170 LSAT + 1 year WE = ED to Northwestern the first day they take apps.

Re: 2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
Vandy people are LSAT whores. Don't know if they'd go that low on GPA, though. How about University of Minnesota? Hell, just blanket the Midwest, and see what you get.
My advice: pick the top state school in a state where people worship their state school (think UGA, Ole Miss, UW, UT and UM are out) and plan on becoming a local.
These days, either you go to a national law school, or you go to the top school in your state. Or enjoy temporary doc review.
Or, alternatively, you plan on switching your state to one with more manageable schools if you live somewhere like Michigan, Cali, or Texas. But if you move from your home state to attend anything other than a top 14, plan on convincing the OCI employers that you intend to live there forever.

Not really. They don't really dip below 3.3 unless it's an engineering-type candidate or a VERY non-trad person.niederbomb wrote:Vandy people are LSAT whores.

I wonder how Northwestern feels about their having officially been labeled the low gpa T14.... "have a 2.1, no sweat, retake and enjoy NU!"vanwinkle wrote:2.x GPA + 170 LSAT + 1 year WE = ED to Northwestern the first day they take apps.

What do you all think this will do to their ranking over the next 5-10 years? Sooner or later they're going to start cutting the 2's out completely I'm sure.

Re: 2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
probably not. their assessment scores are still high and they're sitting on a ridiculous LSAT median. Also, whoever said Vandy is an LSAT whore is insane.lolschool2011 wrote:I wonder how Northwestern feels about their having officially been labeled the low gpa T14.... Re: 2.7 (Ouch I know) 170 on LSAT
I'm in the unenviable position of being able to weigh in on this based on my current experiences. I have a 2.73 and 170 and have been basically shut out of the T14. Northwestern currently has me on hold with a lot of numerically superior applicants, so I'm not holding my breath. Due to financial/family reasons I could not ED anywhere, but you might find yourself in a better position if you are able to do so OP. Are you looking at applying next cycle? If so my biggest recommendation would be to ED to NU if you really want T14.
Take a look at me on LSN (http://lawschoolnumbers.com/slamp/jd), maybe it will help you get some ideas of how things might play out for you. And keep in mind that I have over 5.5 years of military leadership experience, compared to your 1 year of current work experience. I think that has helped me distance myself from my low GPA, so just to put it into perspective. Otherwise my softs are decent, nothing too stellar but comparable to a large number of others I would think.

same boat, 2.81 URM(Mex) 179, I'm not looking forward to applying next cycle at all
I don't think LSP numbers are accurate at all, as they have me in at all t-14 except HYS with a weak consider at H. However in reality I doubt I can get into any of the T-10, much less CCN.

As a URM, i'd bet you'll get top 10 and probably top 6. You are far better off than OPcsalguero10 wrote:same boat, 2.81 URM(Mex) 179, I'm not looking forward to applying next cycle at all

But I guess NU isn't in the top 10 this year...

A URM with a 179 is about as rare as it gets in the law app world. Enjoy the top 10. And I think that weak consider at H is pretty accurate. Congrats on the high score. Be excited, not worried.Patriot1208 wrote:As a URM, i'd bet you'll get top 10 and probably top 6. Good shot at Michigan, Northwestern, and Georgetown.abolonsky wrote:I am in a similar boat: 3.1 engineering from a T10, but 180 LSAT. Worked full time in school and have 2 years experience at in engineering at Fortune-500 companies. Chances at T14?
Small shot at NYU, Penn, Cornell and Duke. UVA without ED is small, but with ED it's probably the best chance you got.
Tiny shot at the rest of the T14.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
