Re: Retaking LSAT during a gap year?
This depends on two things:
1. What's your GPA?
2. What is your practice test range?
If you have a 4.0, a retake really isn't necessary, if you have a 3.5, it might be.
Were you PTing at 178 and consistently hitting 180? If so, a retake might be a good idea. If your PT average was a 175, a retake might not be worth it. You are bound to drop another 2 points again. Either way, a 173 puts you in good shape at most of the T-14. Good luck.

EDIT: I just looked at your stats. A 4.0/173 could get you into Harvard, another 2 points you would be a lock. In this case, a retake might be a good idea.

if i were you i so would NOT retake 173 is amazing. with that GPA? I would seriously focus on just building up your resume and getting the best LORs possible. I don't think you'll have a problem. and god forbid you do worse. idk its not worth the stress to me

The natural reaction is to say do NOT retake- if you look at numbers you'll see that most people in that score range score lower on a retake.
That said, if you think your nerves negative affected you and you're scoring above a 177 on PTs, I think it might be worth it for you to get into HYS/full rides anywhere else.
I also contemplated retaking my 172 and I know it's a really tough decision- I wish you all the best of luck!

arism87: it sounds like you ended up not retaking? Are you happy with that decision?

I did not retake, and I am happy with the decision- but your situation is somewhat different. I am determined to go to law school next year so the decision to take the Feb LSAT that I was considering would not have made a huge difference for me- MAYBE I could have gotten into Harvard or negotiated for some extra money (particularly at Michigan where 1 point seems to be a $12,000 difference)..jbptls wrote:arism87: it sounds like you ended up not retaking? That said, your GPA is much higher than mine and you have plenty of time before you apply. A few more points for you would mean a shot at full rides to almost anywhere and admission to HYS.
