Despite being an URM, I think you're not going to get into either Harvard or Yale.
Stanford is a toughie too but more likely.
I think you're in all the others. Columbia/Chicago/NYU are the most borderline and the other four..you are definitely in!

If he doesn't, I think the only reason will be because he applied late. Minority men are the mythological fucking unicorns. A guy got into Harvard this cycle with a 3.8 and a 165. Sure his GPA is higher, but his LSAT isn't.

I mean, that's just the icing on the cake. He'd probably get in even without that. There are truly so few black males in higher education.

I am sick of people recycling garbage responses on TLS. Applications as of mid-January were down about 13% this year compared to last year. And December LSAT takers fell by 22%, so I think if anything that number is going to fall more as the cycle progresses. This would suggest that there will be significantly less competition for seats when applying late than in previous years. So the conventional wisdom may not apply.

I remember earlier this cycle people kept rehashing the "ED at UVA" line to people, insisting that 170/3.0+ was a guaranteed lock. These were the same people that forgot that UVA OVER-enrolled last year and had to defer a bunch of students, taking up seats for this year's cycle. So while UVA ED is still a great option, it wasn't guaranteed like a lot of people insisted, and a lot of people got shut down by UVA in the ED cycle with numbers that may have worked in previous cycles. This forum, like people in the legal profession in general, is filled with people who can interpret past events but suck nuts at forecasting future events. They are slow to respond to changing circumstances and fail to build new information into their predictions.

The truth is, you have a great shot at all those schools, especially Yale since they have a genuine rolling admissions process where late apps pass through completely unscathed. Applying late usually hurts you, but I think this year is different and your profile is a really good one. Go for it, I think you'll do well and you'll get good $$$ offers as well.

Yeah, to be honest, if you don't get in at YHS or some other school you're completely ecstatic about, just reapply next cycle. If you apply in October, people will throw money at you.

+1. It's hard to gauge your chances since you applied so late, but I think you have a realistic shot at every one, and if you don't have any options you love, apply early next cycle and enjoy Yale, Harvard, or Stanford.

I've already taken a year off and I'm a little anxious to get started, and since I have been accepted to Boalt it's unlikely that I would wait another cycle. Are YHS so much better that it would be worth waiting?

One thing I also have almost no clue about is how the $ thing works -- is it tied to need or the school's desire to get an applicant to attend (or both)? From what I'm seeing in peoples posts, it seems tied to early application, which is somewhat unfortunate for me....oops .

Most schools have a certain amount of money to give out, and they offer out as they accept students. Unfortunately, most give all of it (or nearly all of it) out by mid-cycle, so you are less likely to get money as the cycle wears on. There are however some exceptions (example: Michigan). As to whether the amount is tied to need or to merit or to a desire to get a student to attend-- it all depends on the school. Some schools are entirely need based. Many more are entirely merit based. Some do both. As an AA with an exceptional LSAT score, I think many schools will be clamoring to get you. I frankly don't know much about HYS because I didn't apply to them.

That depends entirely on the person, but I personally would wait a cycle if I thought I could go to Stanford. That's me though, really just depends on your career objectives.

Delayed thank you again to everyone who responded, was very helpful for me to hear some educated perspectives/advice. Got accepted to Stanford today, so I guess there's a good shot I end up there.
