Post by boom_cs » Tue Jan 11, 2011 10:52 am

What are my chances for these schools?

UNC
Wake Forest
George Mason
Alabama
U of Texas
Georgia
GW

Any input would help

Coming from someone with pretty similar numbers (GPA a couple of points higher), assuming that you are not a URM:

UNC - You have a pretty good shot w/ since your in-state with that high of an LSAT. They seem to like GPA a bit though, so if you have any sort of a good explanation for the GPA (upward trend or some difficulty, etc...) I would do a GPA addendum.
Wake - In w/ $18k scholarship.
GMU - Waitlist (unless you write a compelling GMU, then you might have a shot, but still doubtful).
Alabama - In (maybe scholarship? it may be too late in the cycle though).
Texas - No chance.
Georgia - In, more than likely
GW - Out.

Does being in state provide any advantage at Wake?

Not as far as I can tell. It may have a very marginal benefit, but who knows? (I.e. NC residents more likely to attend than California residents)

Since Wake is a private school (unlike UNC) they do not have government requirements for what percent of the class has to be NC residents.

My numbers are slightly higher than yours (3.27, 167), but here's what I think.

UNC - WL, most likely but being in state will help, like the other poster said
Wake Forest - In
George Mason - I got waitlisted here, which was a surprise. If you write a good essay it might be different for you though.
Alabama - WL/In (not too familiar with Alabama, but it seems like they like 165 and up)
U of Texas - Out
Georgia - WL/In
GW - Out (I'm not holding out much hope here for myself, either)
